Ethiopian press has a bit more freedom than harry in this case who cannot really say much till everything is done. Paper would have got the nod to publish Ethiopians would be happy with a broadly accurate good news story, they certainly would not gain anything but embarrassment if it was fake.

Would say its bad news for the TPLF,Tigray makes up between 6 and 7 percent of Ethiopia population its recent actions gave the government the room to start mobilising the rest of the country against them. Ethiopia more than four times the size of the Uk and TK far away from any conflict areas. Likely the conflict will give extra impetus to the government to get things moving to gain money from TK to help pay for the conflict. All this should obvious to elves dwarfs and even if you are off with the fairies.

Think I am more happy with the leaks than i would a fluffy update.

Whole thing would make more sense after some big breakthrough announcement from Kefi if they want to attract international investment even after the newspaper article generating some interest.

Could be rescheduling till after some kefi news or the newspaper article would have been a bit of an elephant in the room or could just be genuinely busy like the rest of the government.

Journalists obviously has good sources talked to expert Begosew Abate (PhD) and think the the whole thing is a bit too detailed without a leak from somewhere probably the mining ministry again. The story is spun a bit suggesting that Ethiopian efforts have saved the company and the project suggesting that is the source as well. Certainly doubt the article would have even made it to publication without the paper being sure the Ethiopian side was happy about it especially as recently a paper was banned for awhile after upsetting the government.

You could argue the Ethiopians have saved the company or the project but could also argue a previous newspaper article was damaging and the main benefit of any success by kefi in Ethiopia will be their mining industry.

Obviously Kefi and harry are more constrained in what they can say and harry more naturally cautious anyway the Ethiopian side however inevitably going to have an eye on the politics especially any ambitious politicians.

Re the moving people they will be moved in stages in small groups probably only when needed according to the mining plan think one of the first tranches moving is from the electrical substation site. The article has kind of “let the cat out of the bag” so would be awkward for anyone from kefi to attend the webinar now. However other info might “accidentally” slip out.

Q: There was an article in Ethiopia’s Fortune Magazine on the weekend which reported that the Tulu Kapi finance is closing but that the Chairman declined to name all the financiers. Why not name the financiers? And there were also several factual mistakes made in the article.

A: It is considered best to focus on the task at hand and avoid distractions with media or others simply not involved in the project. All material information gets reported via the regulatory channels when appropriate to do so.

Think the article must have a least tacit permission from the Ethiopian side or it would not have gone ahead considering a paper was banned for a while after upsetting the Ethiopian government.

Plus a few details more likely to come from that side rather than Kefi. At least its good news this time and clears any remaining doubt that the Ethiopians are on board. The article is of course spun a bit for the Ethiopian readers and voters but do we really care who gets most of the credit in Ethiopia as long as TK gets over the line?
