Very, very, high risk. Russia which is a very difficult place in which to do business. Very corrupt, poor infrastructure, possibility of US sanctions freezing monies. Many bribes to be paid and if you have a valuable asset, management may suddenly find themselves arrested and the business confiscated and given to someone else. Mining leases and permits suddenly revoked or disputed. Plus it is AIM listed and UK authorities would do nothing to help investors here if it did go wrong.

As long as we just flog her some shares with no requirement for an underground transit system (like Sirius) and no guarantee that she can have the lot for a two cents if a problem arises, I reckon we will be okay. I will get my legal advisor, Sir Barry Humphries, no less, to draft an agreement along the lines of x million shares, sold at a premium of 50% to the market, subject to ore being trucked to Telfer only, and if it all goes wrong, by way of compensation one glass of prosecco wine, plus pork pie and a box of tissues.

Biswas has said before that the ore can be trucked so to Telfer so he must have given it some thought and what Newcrest think and what Newcrest want is all that really matters. I hadn't realised that a conveyor might be an option though, I had thought maybe rail. As you say though, the more complex you make things, the more that can go wrong. I am looking for the update in January and hopefully the share price will take off, there must come a tipping point when the market decides this is a tier 1 asset and starts valuing it that way. I imagine to get the same productivity out of trucks you would probably have to bribe the drivers with pork pies and ginsters pasties.

I think the number of extra rigs will be determined by Newcrest’s timetable to feasibility study and how far mineralisation extends on step outs. Current drilling is to try and find the edges of the orebody with big step outs. They are doing some big step outs, if they hit mineralisation Newcrest will need to do a lot of infill drilling. If the timescale is up to end 2020 to get a handle on the orebody, then they will need to move quickly. A doubling of drill rigs? Rio drilled aggressively at Winu, expect the same of Newcrest. Plus there is the weather to factor into it, they are planning to ramp up operations when the weather is more amenable.

"I am curious as to why..." The fate of Solgold was, and still is, largely controlled by the chief exec Nick Mather who directly and indirectly holds a very large shareholding. He not only holds shares directly in his own name, but also through a family trust and another company. However, since the recent fundraising I am not sure whether he still controls enough shares to block a takeover. He refused to enter into a JV and would only let Newcrest and BHP take minority stakes. He is very shrewd and has stated publicly he does not like JV's as he feared giving away too much too early. I think he probably would be amenable to a takeover, but at the right price!

I've seen those figures in previous presentations, but they are already out of date as we await MRE3 which I reckon will hopefully be next week or the week after. Be interesting to see where Cascabel sits then. And I reckon there will be a regional update as well with some assays.

Both Rio and BHP are sat on billions in the bank. They have to invest at some point.

Good article, that certainly would be a route to getting maximum value but then usually majors want the whole cake not just a slice. Interest from Rio shouldn’t be ruled out either, they need tier 1 copper projects but there aren’t many out there.

Do we know for certain that they are going to carry on drilling though as the weather gets hotter or are they coming back next year? I checked the weather forecast last week for Telfer and it was up to 40c/42c. Telfer operates year round but I haven't seen anything from Newcrest or Greatland saying they will carry on exploration drilling through the summer.

Question is will it trade at a discount to the fundraising or a premium? The shares are going to BHP so I can’t see them selling so they shouldn’t weigh on the price.

Well at least that has got the fundraising out of the way which has held the price down for ages. Looks like Bhp still keen on Ecuador and maybe this will get the takeover rumours going again.
