Just ran the 5yr share price and noted we were back to where cdc came in.
No change in SP. Feeding more Zambians?
4m - That is huge!! If the big ones are related, that I believe is beyond Irwin/Grogan pension pots. We should be expecting an RNS if they are a build for a fund as that must be beyond 3% by now (although not counting!!). If no RNS then maybe we have just become popular among many institutions as that does not look like PI money. Zam Gov pension selling up but not reporting would probably see the SP dropping. Rabb selling up? Again that scale of sales would see the SP dropping not rising.
Lots of play money transactions as well. Not our normal backwater doldrums!
Hi again John!
From what I've seen here, the numbers of trades are tiny with most being for stupid small amounts which I guess are the market makers. So this is stagnant in a backwater of AIM. However the recent very large transactions without any RNS got me speculating as to what might be happening:-
Theory 1: Both founding directors retired recently with significant levels of shares. If they have loaded up a pension pot with those shares that might explain it.
Theory 2: The government of Zambia is short of cash and not averse to bending laws. Could they be selling the family silver (pension fund) ahead of the election and forgetting to bother with notification rules in other countries? Would AIM levels of monitoring pick that up?
Theory 3: Africa funds have done the calcs and can see how cheap this is. If you buy an africa fund you are inherently taking the type of risk inherent in Zambeef so if things get volatile its accepted.
My hope is that it is theory 1 or 3 and that a re-rate will happen quite quickly when they have some more good news to report. I don't think we will see dividends before a change of government as dividends means paying taxes into a bottomless pit when I guess CDC would prefer development in Africa.
I’m not clear why we needed this statement, probably only a few days before actual half year results? They did this last time too.
Presumably means $2m will be paid off debts??
Another big one! 4m shares - more than 1%!! Where did they find those ??
The sprayed concrete and concrete segments tend to be used for different purposes in tunnelling. Sprayed concrete is used in the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM - new but really should now be ancient tunnelling method!) to allow the surrounding rocks to take up most of the load rather than the concrete. NATM best employed on short or one-off sections e.g. junctions . NATM was used on the channel tunnel crossovers and the short road tunnel that goes over the Chunnel. Segments are typically used with boring machines that churn out the long 'boring' sections and rely on the segments to restrain any ground movement and provide a consistent finish.
One of the issues with using fibres in concrete spraying is the candy floss effect. Candy floss is sprayed sugar fibres - you wouldn't want to rely on candy floss to hold up your tunnel. Steel fibres tend not do this.
The tunnel segments on the first stretch of HS2 are using steel fibres. It would be a good link up for UOM if they could get graphene to replace the steel in the Manchester stretch of the line. Probably a good direct replacement??
Not shorting but not taken in by the hype as I have been at this stage before with several wonder materials.
I remember the shed-based innovator, fresh off Tomorrow's World that came to visit with his wonder fire resistant material. We unfortunately had to disillusion him as we already had many different superior materials that could easily beat every performance criteria of his 'goo'. Commercial success is far harder than a one off pour.
Will be very happy to see this rocket and genuinely interested in a commercial supply but expect I will have to wait a few weeks.....
Can graphene be mass produced yet? probably a chicken/egg problem if there has not yet been any commercial application.
Can I order a 5% addition for my new extension concrete pour. Happy to pay a little more for all the commercial benefits that will result.
Somehow doubt that everyone in the supply chain is making a commercial profit out of this pour. Did someone provide the graphene as a loss leader?
I am being cynical but hope I am wrong. If I am wrong and we genuinely have the first commercial application of graphene in such a mass market, Versarien sp should be going ballistic.
The victorian era saw the creation of another wonder material that when combined with cement produced amazing results and allowed paper thin cement to cover large spans as a roofing material. Far superior to corrugated tin that rusted especially in the presence of farm animals, easily produced using existing paper making equipment, products that have outlasted human lifespans and are still widely in use today but no longer manufactured/sold in the uk.
Minor problem is if your product gets a reputation like......asbestos cement.
If they only poured yesterday, I would not be screaming from the rooftops. The news was released on an academic website and internal to Manchester Uni so maybe fine there. Lots can still go wrong in the real world of concrete laying (maybe a heatwave....having a laugh!!)
Would like to know more about how it will save on costs. Much simpler way of saving would be to eliminate all the bureaucrats that have to be spoon fed every time an innovation like this comes out.
So finally an admission that Lumberton licensing means it cannot be relied upon to deliver the order. I suspect they have been feverishly looking for an alternative that can be a positive to hide the bad news. Looks like a few old containers of superseded equipment have been shipped to a friendly company in another jurisdiction that has given a temporary permit. Effort now focussed on recommissioning old gear to desperately squeeze out the contracted CoalSwitch pellets with any thought of doing it in an carbon saving, eco-friendly, economical way out of the window.
Maybe a name change might get the market excited about this company?
Anyway, I'm looking forward to my dividends that were promised a while back.......
SP is going up this morning on lots of sales..... Only a few tiny purchases.
Well one of those sales was my own buy and further 'sells' happened later at even higher price. Looks like some funny business going on. Makes sense that Samsung would try to buy up as many as they can, then go for the takeover at a bargain basement price. LO have been in a long time but has RG?
Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow!
Harry sure knows how to keep us thinking we would be stupid to leave with what may come next without anything really happening.
No regular half year update as yet.
Was beginning to wonder what would happen if we had a few sales here as there doesn’t appear to be any appetite.
Last time I sold a few to fund a uk house purchase, the share tanked which tanked the Zambian stock market. If I sold a few this July would that again tank the sp, tank the ZSE , and tank the government? It really surprised me last time how little could influence a small market.
So the business is now React & Maintain? Diluted focus but clear cross selling opportunities.
Also is this an indication of future trajectory and building the business into the traditional 4 main types of maintenance:-
REACT = Corrective Maintenance also traditionally/abusively called REACTive maintenance
FIDELIS = Preventive Maintenance also traditionally the basis for Reliability programs (Reliable translates into Latin as FIDELIS)
????? = Risk Based Maintenance - perfect use for AI to hunt through piles of data to spot opportunities for risk reduction
????? = Condition Based Maintenance - monitor for early indications of future failure and then REACT
The last two are the sexy technology ones that could shift the business into tech share price territory. AI would be great for spotting risks, and IOT for condition based sensing. Two very nice buzz acronyms!
This share annoys me most! Would love to run a mile from all the folks trying to talk it up/talk it down. Makes me very cautious in how to handle it. Have not been impressed by the occasional 'family' snap on location. Would definitely be more comfortable if I could actually see someone building a mine with serious money. I've been in way longer than the 5 year plus normal investment horizon and have been through many of the false dawns & rinse repeats. Only made some cash when I backed my hunch that the last 'finance approved' was another false dawn, sold and bought back in lower. Will definitely be looking carefully through how the words are crafted this time to see if another opportunity arises. However the reason I bought in originally is still there - Harry has significant skin in this game and he pulled off (sort of) the regen of the Rio Tinto mine.
No trades following g a 10% dip. Quiet back waters again.
Expect this will liven up towards the end off March as we might expect a trading update. Not aware of any new downsides other than Covid although not sure that would have been as significant in Zambia. Dollar debt should have improved through farm sale. Hoping for solid results across the board.
After that, batten down the hatches as all the fun of the elections are coming next!
