Even if the test that is to be used is Mologic's, it doesn't mean ODX will benefit. Mologic now has its own new manufacturing capacity via GAD.

ODX will get the antigen test for it's Visitect brand but that'll be for different customers most likely.

It's worth noting that the Moonshot challenge is separate from the DHSC challenge where Abingdon is an interested party.

It'll be interesting to read the reasoning for the decision* - and see what the potential for an oral application is.

*I think it might be the nebulousness of the Operation Moonshot concept. I have a feeling the court might say they need to challenge the constituent parts.

DHSC has lost many of its most experienced and competent staff in recent years. Those who remain are having to deal with politicians and SPADs who don't understand the proper relationships that should exist - and colleagues who are, frankly, not much better.

The 26 January was the earliest possible date that any announcement could be made. However, that was dependent on a decision being made the day the tender closed (unlikely), notified to all the bidders the same day (unlikely) and there being no challenges to the proposed awards (possible).

I would hope for something this week or next. Longer than that would suggest a potential substantive challenge that has yet to be resolved.

How much of that jumble of links is actually relevant to the £912m tender being asked about?

At the moment, it's primarily Innova tests (some of them have been rebadged). New suppliers will be coming on tap over the coming weeks and months...

As I flagged last week, and as Merhantbanker refers to, DHSC is doing a retrospective publication dump of old contracts in an attempt to stave off judicial scrutiny.

The problem is often not with the patients but with the organisation of the appointments. There is an assumption that:

(a) people have a mobile phone to receive texted appointments (like my 83 old mother who doesn't have a mobile and who surgery overlooked her);

(b) that people can simply drop everything and travel to get a vaccine at a time that has been allocated rather than chosen. This isn't always the case and it possible to allow people to choose a vaccination slot. The infrastructure is there.

(c) Invites are being sent out without contact details to allow patients to rearrange (I kid you not - I've seen examples) or with phone lines that are constantly engaged.

(d) DNA figures are including those resident in care and nursing homes, where the vaccination team should have gone to them rather than expect them to come to the team.

I'm not saying that unreasonable DNAs aren't happening - but in many cases the fault is with the organisation rather than the individual.

Alcohol actually has opposing impacts on the immune system. Light to moderate alcohol intake has been demonstrated to be associated with *improved* response to vaccination (generally). It's when you get into chronic moderate to excessive alcohol consumption you get issues with immunity.
