All the Framework does is prequalify suppliers. Individual purchasers will then need to decide:
- whether or not they wish to purchase
- what they wish to purchase
- whether the goods/services on offer meet their requirements.

If you look at the Medusa 19 web-site (https://www.medusa19.com/en/news/), there's no such notice. The only test that is currently being sold is the Rapid Saliva Protein Test - the Avacta test is marked as 'Coming Soon'.

Finally, if this really meant that Avacta's tests were being sold under the Framework, then that would need to be RNSed (as that would clearly be material). It hasn't been.

As I said, they have form for spinning things. It's one things that infuriates me.

No-one has ever said that there has to be one test. I've pointed out a number of times that there's likely to be more than one.

But Avacta does like to give the impression that it is further ahead than it actually is (which, as an Avacta holder, is very frustrating when you want substance rather than puff).

To be precise, Avacta is not on the Framework in its own right. Medusa19 is. Medusa19 is a distributor for the Avacta test but the Framework award relates to Medusa19's Rapid Saliva Protein Test.

The simple fact is that the government have got bored of the pandemic and are coming under pressure from various groups to 'open up the economy'. So they lift all restrictions, don't require proper mitigation to be put in place (in schools, workplaces or other public spaces) and don't make the long term decisions around the infrastructure needed to move forward through the pandemic. They're now concentrating on the things that interest them, their core voters and their donors (the social care announcement being a prime example).

The NHS will be left to pick up the pieces as infection, hospitalisation and death rates begin to climb and we also enter the winter pressures season in October/November... and as the vaccination programme begins to stall due to lack of supply.

The average pandemic last about 4-5 years... we're less than half way through and this isn't an 'average pandemic'. The increased interconnectedness of the world means that spread/mutation is far more likely and that the impact of the pandemic will ripple more widely around the world (the shortage of blood tubes being a good example). And then the UK has the utter folly of Brexit on top...

At least demand for high quality diagnostics will stay high for the foreseeable future.

That should stir things up a bit.

Except that they're not going to roll out vaccinations to 12-18 year olds in England, which would be the best way of protecting school children (along with proper classroom ventilation and masks). Instead, they're going to use the limited vaccine supply to roll out booster jabs to the 50+ age group (who just happen to the age group in which most Tory voters and donors are found).
