Polio vaccine can be administered parenterally or orally. Parenterally uses an inactivated organism - the oral vaccine uses a live-attenuated organism. Oral polio vaccines give better and longer lasting protection than parenteral polio vaccines.

The oral vaccine causes vaccine-related poliomyelitis in about 3 people per million vaccinated (compared to about 5,000 people per million infected with polio).

Yep - for the UK-RTC test ODX is purely manufacturing capacity and everything will be sold under the AbC-19 branding.

They haven't given the wrong impression - they've given a neutral, factual account of what has happened and is going to happen.

It's not their fault that some people clearly don't understand what they've invested in or how bio-pharma research works. Understanding these things is part of the basics of investing in this field...

I'm not sure what narrative you're hearing - but I'm hearing something very different from government, SAGE/iSAGE, WHO, the NHS etc. They're all saying that this is about learning to adapt to a life with Covid - the "new normal". Nobody credible (and I know that excludes most of the government) is talking about a vaccine being available for widespread use* until the end of 2021 at the earliest.

The fact that Covid is going to be around for a long time isn't news... which is why I have consistently been saying ODX is a long term hold. There will be the 'get rich quick' traders who sell up for a quick multibag - but the real value will be in the long term.

*And the reality is that in order to get control of a pandemic virus like Covid, vaccine distribution has to be worldwide, rather than just in a few high income countries.

Because hiccups/failures are just are relevant as the successes. Withholding that sort of information would potentially be unlawful and could seriously damage the company in the long run.

The role of an RNS is to inform shareholders and the market - not to simply boost the share price. Long term holders understand that.

We need to be careful not to read too much into this. The value of ODX is not going to be dictated by tenders for third party delivery services but by contracts for what it produces...

It is irrelevant. It's a tender for a fraction of the number of tests that will be needed (particularly of Operation Moonsplaff goes ahead). Some people are hyping it as if it were some great portent - it really isn't.

We already know what ODX's strengths and capacity are. How the government is arranging for testing products to get to end users isn't really relevant to how much of ODX's product/capacity will be used. Now, if it was ODX tendering for deliveries, that would be a different thing...

For me, N4P is a long term hold. It's value will not necessarily be Covid related (although that would be a bonus) but in relation to other vaccines and drug therapies.

Let's be clear ... the tender is for delivery services - not tests. It is totally irrelevant to ODX.

I know some people are desperate for news - but let's keep the comments relevant, eh? ODX is a long term hold and long term holders will prosper.

Oof! That's a sharp drop caused by the technically illiterate. But it does give me a chance to top up.

Astra Zeneca would want to buy a company that develops a product, that will add to their portfolio, rather than a manufacturer. If they want more manufacturing capacity they can develop that easily and quickly internally.

Within an hour or so of the news that the new NHS Test & Trace app will be launched later this month (24 September), various people have pointed out it doesn't have the functionality necessary to meet the legal requirements imposed on many businesses.

I think the media like to quote figures without understanding what they actually mean.

If this does work, it would be fantastic... but it won't be the be all and end all. It's a diagnostic but at present it isn't configured to work with antibodies, and antibody status will be the king in the longer term.

I think there also potential challenges as this is AI based. It's easier to identify when physical tests go wrong - more difficult to do so when the test is based on AI and machine learning.

If it works, then yes. But some figures were given in the FT the other day that only mentioned one of the two key measures (specificity and sensitivity) which was a little odd...
