Heathrow have reportedly ordered some testing machines...

...only problems is that they're only at prototype stage (it was a prototype used in the Heathrow test). They've still got to get through design freeze, internal testing and validation, external testing and validations, and then MHRA approval.

TTG (the quoted part of the partnership) has gone up today - but I think that's primarily from investors who may not understand the full implications of what is required in order for these tests/machines to get to market.

They already have one - and an Indian subsidiary*. As Benny-Hill says, they've also advertised additional posts to expand their India based team.

It doesn't. Avacta doesn't yet have a test - despite the pronouncements of the company.

The closest to market saliva antigen test is Mologic's... even that is weeks from approval and going to market.

Problem is she's she's now seen as a government stooge and lacks any credibility amongst many of her colleagues. She's also dreadfully misinformed and/or misleading at times. I'd much prefer this to be fronted by Chris Whitty or Ruth May.

At the moment, the hold up is with molecular and antigen testing. We have insufficient PCR capacity to handle all the tests - hence the new large labs (although they still have to staff them - the issue they had with the Cheshire super centre some months ago). These are needed to process the molecular and ELISA tests. We also do not yet have approved LFT antigen tests - that should be addressed in the coming weeks.

As has been pointed out previously (and there was a really good bit on R4's 'More or Less' this week) part of the issue about discussing testing capacity is that the government deliberately and unhelpfully conflates the capacity for the different pillars and types of testing.

As was pointed out on Monday, it will take several days for the University of Ulster to write up the report and get it through it's internal sign off stages. It then has to go to MHRA and the VTAG. Even if this was expedited, it would be the end of this week/beginning of next week at the earliest for MHRA sign off.

That doesn't stop the government from placing orders in anticipation of MHRA approval. It's done that repeatedly in the last 6 months.

Heathrow are likely to have chosen the Virolens because of the reported test speed of 20 seconds. Their problem is, as others have indicated, this is an prototype test system. There's no validated system available - no formal clinical trials, no published data on sensitivity and specificity, no approvals and no manufacturing line.

i-Abra's an AI company, that's partnered up with an engineering company (TT Engineering*) - not a biopharma company. Heathrow may want this pushed through but it will still take months for this to get from prototype to approval to market.

*i-Abra isn't a quoted company but TT Engineering is (TTG).

I have to laugh at those on the Avacta board who are convinced it is their test... they don't actually have one yet.
