RE: Rapid Testing needed urgently8 Sep 2020 12:30
"If they do that Degsy that’s the end of this country and there is absolutely no need, deaths at the moment are minuscule, 3 yesterday, 2 the day before. Funny how we have gone from panic about deaths, to now numbers of those getting it, when there are virtually no deaths."
The deaths figures you are quoting are incorrect - they're the 'adjusted' government figures that do no reflect the true level of deaths (you need to look at the ONS excess death figures for that, which run about a week behind).
...and it fails to recognise that deaths trail case number and hospitalisations by 2-3 weeks. As case numbers grow (and they are doing so alarmingly at the moment) then hospitalisations will grow and - sure as eggs is eggs - the number of deaths per day will grow.
What is particularly concerning is that those getting it at the moment are in the younger age groups - those being encouraged to go back to school/university and back to work. Inevitably, deaths in these age groups will increase and we are already beginning to see that trend being reflected in the ONS data.
Anyone who thinks that concern over the growth in numbers is being over-exaggerated or that this is "nor worse than 'flu" is a f*cking idiot. Particularly when they're not the ones on the front lines having to manage clinical services or treat patients.
