RE: Competition for the Funnels/Tubes5 Nov 2020 11:56
I've been using this site for info on worldwide tests: https://chs.asu.edu/diagnostics-commons/testing-commons
If you filter appropriately, it says there are 48 tests (available or under development) using saliva.
Of these 11 are targeting viral antigen.
5 of these require complex lab analysis, so unlikely to be relevant to rapid testing.
One from Roche can be used for Point of Care testing.
Leaving 5 tests which are for self-analysis, i.e. most suitable for home use and rapid results.
Of these one is an ELISA test from an Israeli company.
Leaving 4 which are Lateral Flow Tests.
2 of these are US-based and still under development (3M & Orasure).
One is from University of Lille in France, so unlikely for commercial ramp-up to supply UK.
The other one is Avacta.
But I think this site might be missing a trick on Mologic which it lists as requiring complex lab analysis. Mologic are certainly developing a rapid antigen test which has been trialled at Heathrow airport and which I assume required a mobile lab.
But my understanding was that Mologic are developing a rapid LFA for home use (self-analysis).
Given that many companies must be seeking to develop these tests, the website I've been using might not be keeping up with things.
