carlywarly - There's no working out. - Your cumulative holding bought over the years at different prices are averaged out. The difference between your average and your selling price is your gain.

carlywarly - it occurs to me that with such a substantial holding, built-up over the years, other than what you have in an ISA (if any) a sale would saddle you with a CGT tax-liability. - Don't forget to allow for that with your strategy.

Apologies, gold was trading at $1284 on 13/4/17 not 1025, that was the price in �'s. - Nevertheless, still quite a bit lower than today.

Hi carlywarly - Interestingly, when the SP reached 190 on 13/4 last year, gold was trading at $1025. -Work that one out. :-) All in all though, holding CEY last year proved profitable with a 14% increase in the sp, all be it that the increase was salvaged in the last 3 weeks of the calendar trading year, added to the divi yield, giving a rule-of- thumb 23% return
