I can't see any logic whatsoever in thinking this could be a prelude to a takeover, none at all. In those sort of circumstances CEOs would quite often be given an incentive to stay during that fairly finite period.
A trade takeover is very unlikely in my eyes but I can see good reasons why the management might seek backing to take the company private and away from public markets, particularly if they are remotely close to being correct about the value of the cracker.
Problem with that is that many PE backers look first and foremost for cashflow and we know there's not much of that!
But a couple of biotech companies have delisted from AIM recently and they found a way.
