A Genetech executive told Ira Mellman "Develop cancer vaccines over my dead body".
The market simply wasn't there when RG was on the road trying to persuade big pharma to do a SCIB1 deal.
All the activity was in CIs, TCR and CarT - those were the races big pharma were engaged in.

The GC is a wonderful way to create a market for Scancell's products
The 2 combo trials is another way.
The BionTech collaboration is a third
Then my favourite Modi1 is the fourth

The market when it comes will be enormous

CIs block off the molecules that attract proteins, so again slowing down the tumour's growth.
It gives the patients immune system a better chance of attacking the tumour but only of the order of 30% of patients benefit.
SCIB2 generates a potent TCell attack but at the same time causes more expression of the molecules that CIs block off.
So there is a trial of SCIB2 planned in combo with a CI and the hope is that this will work markedly better than either CI alone or SCIB2 alone.

I'm just interested in the science
Combo trials with CIs are all the rage.

CI, SCIB2 and 401?

1) Mod12 well defined
2) 3 trials planned (delays not down to Scancell)
3) Biontech collaboration going well and extended to Modi2
4) GC is now defined as a project involving la creme de la creme and all centred around Modi3
5) 3rd platform announced
6) Karoinska institute collaboration confirmed

Seems like a year of great progress to me.
The SP does not reflect this so I'm like Wild, still building.

Not often someone posts on the science on this BB.
By the look of things 401 works in a similar to CIs but without side effects.
It doesn't attack the tumour but it slows down the growth.
Might work very well in combination with SCIB2 which does attack the tumour

Agreed Ruck, but AI is software not hardware

Exactly Ruck.
It's something scientists are working on. The ability of computers to think creatively. But I think this is decades away and maybe needs to have processers far more powerful than those currently existing. Maybe quantum computers provide a step in the right direction. But even if you have the processing power you still have that same question "how do you program genius?"
I actually think Roche and Genentech are not spending their money wisely at this time. Methinks they are frustrated because their scientists are not providing answers quickly enough.
Even if what they are actually doing is creating computerised diagnostics you still need to specify the rules and surely this is for experienced oncologists and talented clinicians. Then you hand those rules over to a few excellent technical analysts and programmers. You don't need to buy so-called AI companies to do that.

But is does seem to be flavour of the month

Yes, I know.
And I don't think it actually is Artificial Intelligence in its true sense.
I think of it more as clever software that analyses readouts from a patient and suggests the correct combination of drugs.
I think true AI in the medical field is decades away and may never be achieved.

Artificial Intelligence also seems to figure high on CRUK's priorities.

We've heard a lot in recent years about patent expirations and there is also pressure to reduce drug prices.
Just as well that Scancell has great patents and cheap treatments. It can only make Scancell more attractive when the time comes.

The CSO of Scancell is Professor Lindy Durrant.

Part of her talent is to identify targets on the tumour surface that are rare on healthy cells.
In Moditope (CD4 killers) these targets are something that no other researchers have investigated.
Scancell have a patent on these targets for use in cancer treatment! This is the land grab that crumbs talked about.

But not only do the CD4 killers attack these targets, they also initiate a chain reaction that causes the poor tumour to express more of the target. The tumour does not stand a chance.
Truly wonderful science.

Works brilliantly in mice and early next year we should know if it works in humans.
Then the fun really begins

Immunobody (scib1/2etc) are complementary with CIs like Keytruda.
Merck would actually welcome such vaccines.

Moditope, in contrast, is powerful enough not to need CIs but has yet to be trialed but one is scheduled to start this year. Moditope could change the face of cancer treatment completely.

Vascular
These are all trials involving pembrdizumab otherwise known as Keytruda.
This is the same checkpoint inhibitor that Scancell are to trial in combination with scib1.

Be interesting to see how this pump and dump operation goes
