Just had a look back at the SCIB1 RNSs - from one released on 2nd May 2012 it says - 'Patients will be treated with a 4mg dose of SCIB1 on five occasions over a period of 6 months. The study is expected to take 18 months to complete.'
It was during the 6 months of doseage that things really started to transform - the patients responded better than expected, the dosage was allowed to be increased, the trial was given most unusual permission to extend to 5 years, no side effects appeared, and as you know, the patients did so well that at least one of them recovered, went back to work, got married and the last I heard had resumed normal life. Lets face it, most or all of the patients were expected to be dead after 6 months, so the extended trial was due not to 'delay' but to exceptional results and success. Nobody expected the work to be as successful as it was, or if they did, they kept their expectations under wraps to retain credible scientific level-headedness. And that's why the news releases sometimes sound low-key, when in actual fact they are stunning - but if you start letting off party poppers and decking the lab with balloons it can look as if you are making too much of something. I think party time will come along just fine in a bit, possibly sooner than some expect.
