Advertising media shares have all recently suffered - wpp, publicis and s4c - due to perceived AI threat and stagflation worries .....ad spent being cyclical and discretionary that clients can easily cut expenditure on. There has been some recovery in the share prices, S4C turning first, but wpp and publicis also on the uptick now.

WPP share price currently has the following cross-currents - some short sellers have been and still are increasing (eg MW) and some are decreasing. A major holder sold out in July, and so is out of the way now. Some funds have increased their holdings. Technicals look good for the short term, but need to be aware that MW is still increasing its short positions. Longer term depends on how the market sees as credible and achievable the new strategy that will in due course be outlined together with costs and cash flow impact, including how debt would be affected....therefore I have no idea where it would go.

Apparently, they were holding 3.4% stake in Wpp. They sold out in July. Short sellers increased in August/September, but no new short positions since 19 Se[ptember. Citadel reduced their short last a little last week.

Path should now be clear for buyers to come back in now.

One hour and 30-minute moving averages looking promising for continued uptick and suggest the bottom was reached last week. If 4-hour moving average can turn, we could be looking at re-emergence of uptrend.

Short sellers have taken this down, and with over 4%, the potential for whiplash is very strong.

Also, and media are cyclical stocks so general stagflation talk is not going to be good for these shares. Note Publicis also took a hammering in recent days, although S4C has been recovering.

I remain long and strong. Will continue to monitor what new management he as in store for us, plus cash flow, earnings etc and the real tangible effect of AI tech. At current price levels my view is that all the bad news is in the price, the risk-reward is more weighted towards reward. Just my considered view. All the best to holders

Up to above 19p on the SB account. Moving averages suggest it's heading back over 20p, maybe towards 21p.

I haven't been able to find any news, but saw that the whole ad sector was down - Publicis and also S4C's uptick (from yesterday's big drop) reduced. Possibly analyst downgrade on the sector. Anyway, they are all recovering now, let's hope that continues. I'm trading small positions, currently in at 396.

Tech stocks down and value stocks up. About time underperformers started recovering.

Corporate activity may or may not happen. Obviously nice if a good deal were forthcoming. But I'm also focusing on macro events and stock rotation. Wpp up today and their ADRs up nicely in NY. S4C and WPP have similar directional trend, so I'm betting it will recover tomorrow on sector rotation fund flows. I'm in both by the way.

Consequently I'm expecting our ad shares to continue their upward move today. Also would predict gilts to rally a little.

Yes, I heard a little bit about that on CNBC but only got into the last bit of the conversation, in which I think they were questioning how profitable ai will actually be. The uk ad shares started climbing after the news on coreweave. I am sure this had got to be related.

Should start heading near to 23p now; Wpp ADR up sharply and also on London listing. S4c will follow. Nasdaq on the other hand is heading south. Hopefully this is going to be more than just one day blip up.

A bit of respite today, s4C and wpp both bouncing a bit today and tech under performing. Possible start of rotation from outperformers to underperformers.

Seems to be moving north now on the 30 minute technical charts, as moving averages lines are starting to cross. If it can be repeated for one hour and 4 hour, then I think uptick will be confirmed on technicals.

Lots of chatter on s4 board about corporate activity. I'm not in S4, but would suggest prospects of corporate activity in media sector is good for all media shares generally, especially those that have been beaten up so much recently.

Mergers and acquisitions usually assessed on price / merger ratio, how funded (debt, share issue etc), whether earnings dilutive or accretive and strategic fit. Strategic fits looks good, and probably longer terms good for eps. Rest is unknown and too early to tell, plus the deal itself uncertain. Factor all of that into the equation for share price direction and the answer for me is: "dunno".
