GeordieShores, you are getting confused about what was discovered where and when. Firstly, the sharp rise at the end of June was in response to the visible mineralisation at Black Hills (the photos of gold nuggets) followed by excellent grades from the first Havieron hole - nothing to do with Ernest Giles. When the rest of the Havieron results came in, investors lost interest because most don't understand the significance of all results together. Now, the situation is very different. There is much more evidence of a very large deposit at Havieron, especially since world class grades have been found in a second hole and double the size of the first hole - any more good results will just add further evidence of a major discovery. Even if the next results are only half as good as the first hole, it still adds to the overall tonnage.
Regarding Ernest Giles, the surface mineralization is not the kind that can be picked up with a bucket and spade and was not visible - it is trace amounts at surface. This indicates that there is likely to be a source from which it came. What Newmont did is focused on the surface footprint and directly below, but it is often the case that a deposit is offset from the surface footprint, and can be some distance away - this was evident when the Tropicana deposit was discoved. There were some interesting results from Empress and Wishbone also, but the Ernest Giles license needs a lot more time and money to locate any deposits. It's doesn't mean there is nothing there, just that it's harder to find.
