Newsflash....you can take a temperature reading anywhere on the planet. Up a tree, in a puddle, at the end of a runway or even a few inches up your ringpiece.

Those will all give you a reading, but as temperature is a non-additive measure, it matters now how you weight the results, they cannot ever form a meaningful dataset and therefore cannot form a meaningful average

It's really very simple. I refer you to my Aberdeen - London example. You can weight the readings any which way you choose, that will not accurately reflect the temperature in Wetherby. It might be 10C, it might be 11, it might be 19, it might even be warmer than London at 22. That's the whole point you absolute dipstick....you cannot take a meaningful average of a non additive intensive property.

Taking a mean, standard deviation, mode or any other kind of stat over a non-additive measure is absolutely meaningless.
