RE: 2 Trading days left, before TSX is complete16 Jul 2025 22:05
I'm some way behind you on the investment curve being still in my forties, but yes the end game for me is to park into high dividend paying stocks like Vodafone, BAT (slightly riskier) and the likes. The ones that will return near double digit dividends but at the moment I'm still happy to play high risk in the knowledge I can earn lots of money anyway.
Crypto is marketed as digital gold but it can never be. Crudely, each "coin" is a unique answer to an arbitrary algorithm and the number of arbitrary algorithms and therefore digital currencies is infinite whereas the amount of gold in existence is (for now) absolutely finite. That's why gold will always be a store of value. China, Russia, Indian and even Saudi have been buying gold aggressively in recent years.
The reason I don't embrace green stocks is pretty much the same as the reason I won't embrace Crypto, although admittedly green energy is at least "tangible". I simply don't believe that the ultimate destination of Western nations is green energy for all the reasons I've outlined many times before. You cannot run an industrial nation on intermittent energy.
That doesn't mean I don't look at other energy solutions. I invested in Rolls Royce for example at 280p per share purely on the very solid case for SMRs being a major part of our energy balance going forwards.
