I work in this sector, should have been reasonably easy to find given the route of the truck was known.

Not terribly dangerous unless you get very close and/or long duration. It was interesting to see all the bad science reporting over it as people struggled with Bequerels as a unit.

Culpepper - I voiced a similar opinion to yours and was not well received. The usual "dyor" followed by being accused of being lazy, and a string of correlated-ish (but no proof of causality) statements regarding short positions and manipulation.

Being a layman I don't mean to cast aspersions when I say that other laymen appear to have the impression that shorting always has a negative effect on a share and that GGP specifically is marked for surpression.

I still think that sounds like the tail wagging the dog and we here had a bubble a couple of years ago, followed by the tide going out on a lot of popular consumer shares.

The combined (paper?) loss, or being underwater has increased the scrutiny and need to find a villain. Fertile grounds for a conspiracy theory.

THAT ALL SAID... I think GGP was the most traded/discussed aim stock for a period, and I assume it would be a rewarding stock to manipulate, if it were possible.

CJM I don't want to sound argumentative but here's a scenario where I could see people being pushed to selling...

Imagine the SP has just had a good rally (10ish percent) over a few days, after two years of descent, and you were able to make it look like a retrace was about to happen by dropping it 4 or 5 percent, with hints that even lower prices are coming.

I could believe people would try to jump out to retain what little of the preceding raise was left. Sensible? No. Plausible? Yes.

Jamesp21 - thanks for the extra. I had thought the purchases outweighed the difference required to cross the threshold, so I can see its reasonable to assume some overshoot past the reportable line.

BR - I don't think there's any decision making being done at GDXJ, from what I have seen if a share qualifies (mcap, other criteria) the GDXJ add it to their portfolio. The amount of shares they buy is determined by a formula which spreads their investment proportional to some arbitrary factor.

I don't believe there's anyone looking at dips and buying as a result.
