Taking a short position after a drop like that doesn't seem to make any sense to me. Does this mean that those 9 million odd new shares on loan are all making a loss already?

I noticed wishbone jump this month, trying to ignore it - I had no intention of investing in them before I saw the chart and hindsight will not deliver profits! Missed the opportunity, better off letting it go.

Just realised that the auto scaling on the chart had to accommodate that spike down yesterday and made all other fluctuations look insignificant, doh!

I'm not saying it's impossible, just that it's not certain either. If the SP is lower now than when the shorts were placed (which it definitely is if they were placed any time in the last year and a half) then there's no squeeze.

Was this shortly after the gamestop saga? It was the hot topic for a while.

Just my two penneth, but quite a lot of that post is made as statement of facts, when he's observed some behaviour and assumed a motive.

His representation of the situation is *one* possibility but he's presenting it as *the* reason. People could be shorting the stock because they think the SP will decline. It doesn't have to always be a bear trap/short squeeze/something exciting sounding.

I haven't seen this little noise in the SP for ages, I have been wracking my brain for the last time (and I don't want to start any hares running) but I think the last time might have been the summer before last, before a few good days.

Fingers crossed, I could use some good news and a lambo.

I also kicked off at FT when the unilaterally decided it is as OK to lend my assets out for their gain. I'm on plus, sell orders don't matter, I'll be closing my account with them as soon as I hit my sell price.

Both in terms of average volume, and volume relative to others in the same area. It looks like everyone is sitting on hands.

With volume this low, can we expect bigger swings in SP due to individual trades representing a greater proportion of the daily churn?

Costa - that's the feeling I have from conversation here at the moment. I recognise that some people hold short positions on GGP, but I don't think the excessive focus on 'the short' is necessarily the most productive thing on this board.

If anything, I suspect that while 'we' obsess over who holds what short position we might be missing other, more significant forkery. Unfortunately I'm not well informed enough to hypothesise what other mechanisms may be being used.

I think the SP seems lower than it feels like it should be, and harder to raise, but I really can't bring myself to believe that short trading is the most significant reason for this.

Isn't the idea of shorts that they're taken out, with a termination date, and then closed and the difference paid?

That said, if the short position is largely unchanged, I don't understand how *every* sell at a round figure can be assigned to shorts. They seem to have become the new boogeyman. Something looks fishy? Shorts.

Perhaps it's traders chucking out ba sell after accumulating at lower figures? I'm sure there are more models of shareholder/stakeholder than the PI (us) and the shorter (them). It's over simplifying the ecosystem to assign every transaction to one of two groups like that.

@jet - some people belive NCM are out to get GGP, are manipulating the price down so they get a good deal on the 5% option, and maliciously withholding information to the same end.

I do not, I think it's people filling a vacuum with conspiracies.

Side note, I'm pleasantly surprised how much of yesterday's gain we have held today. I was expecting a bigger pull back.

Sanibel - agreed. I did wonder with the presentation and possible q/a with SD if someone might ask if he has any theories on the SP mystery. It would be interested to hear from someone who is directly connected.

PIs selling? Do we mean people who buy their own shares like 'us'?

Am I missing something where someone with the conviction to accumulate and hold over a million shares would sell them now rather than on last week's 14p spike, or even hold them as would be the sensible plan?

Yeah I don't think we're owed any information except for the outcome of the meetings/arbitration. Just have to be patient.

Summit - "should"? Why? We will be told the outcome and I believe that's all we are entitiled to.
