I know things are very fluid generally atm but does anyone remember the paper from government regarding trying to develop a UK based diagnostics silicon Valley, with about £2 billion to be made available to help support and grow this sector.
I could go back and look it up but frankly I cba.
I just wonder how that project is going now that said 'government' has pretty much shafted all of the UK companies involved in that arena ??
I'm sure we will get some non UK companies to fill the gap and snort up all that UK cash

Not 'instead of
You can't buy a boatload of stuff having previously approved it.
Distribute it widely to your clients, who then complain then go back to the supplier and say we don't want this and expect the supplier to then take all the product back, develop an improved one then replace all of the stock previously issued at nil cost, thats just mad

As I've maintained all along, I personally think novacyt have done nothing wrong and I still stand by that.
Todays RNS whilst not the news we wanted doesn't change anything.
Nova provided test & equipment, DHSC approved this, goods & services delivered to end users.
That's it really, whatever followed could just be described as noise.
I'll shut up now and leave this on the back burner, where its been for a while now.

DA seems to be a man of few words though

Because logic, fairness and integrity aren't in this governments vocabulary, they will say and do anything that takes the heat off them today and worry about tomorrow when it comes.
I still believe all that I've said previously but what I believe or think matters not here.
Its about what dhsc or novacyt can prove or not.

I'm beginning to wonder now if this is all becoming more about gov politics rather than the specific issue with nova.
Given the billions wasted by gov on dodgy ppe etc, they are pursuing claims against other covid contracts in an attempt to look like they are trying to recoup some money.
I suspect GM waltzing off with £8 mill won't have helped much as pointed out by private eye.
So it looks like nova may be the unlucky victim in this, which is rather ironic, given that they actually stepped up and delivered something that helped, a lot.
DA's vow of silence hasn't helped, at all. Let's see what Thursday brings but unless they announce they have developed the Lazarus vaccine that brings ppl back from the dead, can't see much changing tbh.

Just a quick reply from me as lots of it has been covered already.
Sepsis is a massive problem in healthcare.
It comes on very quickly and is responsible for so much death and morbidity.
Its a key performance indicator now for NHS trusts.
Existing detection methods rely on taking a blood sample from the patient and putting into a growth media and monitoring it for growth of bacteria.
Its a time consuming process that can take days. Patients with this condition Don't have days.
Any suspicion of sepsis results in the patients being given broad spectrum antibiotics as a prophylactic treatment.
From memory, novacyt said that this was an area they were focusing on.
Currently diagnosis of sepsis requires growing the bacteria responsible which takes days, also if the patient has had antibiotics prior to the sample being taken, nothing grows.
Using Novacyt molecular diagnostics technology, it should be possible to analyse the blood and look for the DNA/RNA of invading pathogens.
This could be done in a few hrs and would still be able to identify these molecular strands, irrespective of any antibiotics given.
This is clearly a massive step forwards and will help prevent so many deaths and morbidity, which can be very extreme, multiple amputations, organ failure etc.
Plus, massive cost to NHS to treat these patients.
A test that could cut these diagnostics delays would have a massive impact globally and would literally help save millions of lives.
These are the areas that Novacyt should be developing, as they will be game changing.

@Hillseeker, yes, I agree with you completely.
Perhaps I was getting a little ahead of myself, dealing with microorganisms with a very simple gene structure are a lot easier to deal with than much more complex beings such as ourselves.
So yes, you make a very valid point.
I still think however that Novacyt should be keeping a very keen eye on these oncology developments as its clearly, at the moment, the best way forward.
Not sure if its of interest to anyone but the mechanisms of how viruses & cancer work are in some instances quite similar.
1 unexpected consequence of covid was the rapid development of mRNA vaccines.
If you understand how they work, potentially opens up another world of opportunities, early days but one can hope

Not sure if many of you are very familiar with virology, but they have very low standards, love to mix together and get jiggy and share 'stuff'

@kira, the potential is there and thats what investment in AIM is all about, identifying future potential.
NCYT isn't a 1 trick pony company, covid gave a massive boost but the underlying technology that supported those developments is a solid cornerstone for so, so much more.
Its clear to see they have the R&D skills in house to develop both the tests and the instruments to use them on, thats a very solid foundation to build upon, let's see where we go, long term hold for me

I'd also just add that I don't see cancer diagnostics instead of anything else but a further addition to the repertoire of area of application.
The whole area of molecular diagnostics is almost limitless in its applications.
Whats happening now in oncology, is looking at the genetic level.
Its a whole new sphere of medicine thats never been possible before.
There is so much research now in oncology regarding identifying circulating tumor DNA, (ctDNA) or circulating cancer free DNA (cfDNA) for a host of cancers. I'll post this example

The research to initially identify these tumour markers isn't Novacyts bag, thats usually the remit of cancer research charities.
However, once these genetic codes have been proven to be reliable markers of evidence of cancer, then developing a test to Identity these DNA/RNA sequences is Novacyts bread and butter.
I'm not sure if anyone on here has been unfortunate enough to have been diagnosed with cancer, I have.
The whole process is torture, subjective, lengthy and causes so much harm.
Imagine a scenario, whereby either thru routine screening or suspected cases you could have a simple blood test that could identify any abnormal DNA.
I won't go into detail about this here as this is already a long post but just sit, reflect and think thru what the implications of this could mean.
I'll leave you to draw your own conclusions.
Pipe dream, possibly, liklihood of happening high, imo.

Its all at a genetic level, what do novacyt excel at....
I'm not going to hide my disappointment since DA, took over, I still think he's been terrible as a CEO so far.
However, the know how, the IP and the capability of novacyt remains.
I hope I have to eat humble pie and DA, knocks our socks off.
The potential is there, the market is there, someone just needs the drive, insight and passion to lead the way.
Despite my disgruntlement, frustration and losses I still hold, holding, not selling.
Its worth the punt.

Molecular diagnostic testing for cancer was the main driver for me investing in novacyt.
They are in prime position for totally revolutionising both cancer diagnosis, tailored treatment and monitoring effectiveness of treatment.
Lots and lots of research currently being undertaken currently.

If Novacyt can once again get ahead of the field in this area, then the future for novacyt could be huge.
If they combined with POCT and rapid turnaround times...
I hope this is at least on the horizon for DA et Al

I picked up on a statement issued in a previous RNS that someone posted above
"Streamlining R&D to focus on more commercially attractive products"
I'd missed that previously.
So in an attempt to get a question actually answered.

What I would like to ask is:
How far have R&D department gone along this path. Without obviously stating which specific products, but have these more commercially attractive products and or areas been identified so far and if yes, can we expect any announcements in the next 6 to 12 months about said products.

Thats what I'd like to know if anyone would like to submit that.

Since we have only had 1 brand new product announced since DA took over after a veritable avalanche of products, one wonders what the streamlined R&D team have been working on for 6 months

Its got zero to do with covid.
This is a very simple bench test done and actual colonies of bacteria, if they are oxidase positive, it helps in identifying them.
Its not new, its not innovative and frankly its bizarre that they have developed this. Stop reading things into this that aren't there

Afraid this test is neither new nor innovative.
Its been around for decades in various forms.
Seems a very odd test for them to develop and not in keeping with their previous developments

Why on earth are we finding out about these collaborations like this ?
This is a big deal, our new invisible CEO, an expert in marketing and sales says absolutely nothing. The last presentation he gave was crap, share price tanked.
What on earth is going on ?
I hope the next presentation is better and at least gives optimism for the future.

I didn't start the thread I just posted on it.
All I said was that it would be in DHSCs interest to get it sorted ASAP because testing is now as high in front line NHS labs as its ever been, v high positivity rate and lots of ppl getting really sick again, given that lighthouse labs are being decommissioned all this work will go directly to NHS labs again, who will all be looking to increase their capacity.
Wouldn't be surprised to see another national contract for testing again.
Covids far from over getting worse again. Vaccine efficacy is only about 4 months and a vulnerable population again with zero restrictions, I mean what possibly could go wrong ??
