CS, think we’ve discussed it, but what are your thoughts on 2 versions, one for POC with some additional steps similar to Sona and then a test optimised for the great unwashed to drool on?

Hi Spike, we’d be no worse off than currently, as people are already isolating with symptoms and we have those without symptoms now jumping on public transport as Boris says we should. With cold/flu season on the way they won’t have a clue as the current system relies on self declaration. I don’t disagree, gathering data would be very useful in gaining a better understanding, I just think the minefield of privacy is halting progress. Maybe now we’re out of the EU we should alter GDPR, but that’s definitely a separate debate. You either want to try and fight through that quagmire or as PAH has said, go for something fully and truly anonymous and rely on public compliance, just use it for sampling and imply figures - similar to the current ONS approach.

Track and trace is a shambles, the latest is a bun fight over GDPR. They’re currently ringing around and asking anyone who’s been in touch with someone infected to isolate. The important thing isn’t measurement initially, it’s about understanding who really has it and needs to isolate, including the asymptomatic. This can be achieved via mass screening. Generally the public have been compliant. The govt can send out millions of tests, isolate the infected and quickly get the numbers of tracked cases down to a manageable level. Data isn’t as important as breaking the transmission chains. That can come later either using the ineffective approach we have in combination with an Awacta test or via an App if they manage to sort out themselves and the privacy issues.

Just to note... SNG popped to over a quid and a bunch of excited sellers were pleased with themselves and it briefly drifted back. It’s now just bagged again, up 300%. Similar story here if we see a jump, if you sell, you’re risking missing out on the full re-rate.
