At the request of the Government, the scope of FALCON has recently been urgently broadened, to support the national COVID-19 testing programme. Timelines have also been shortened, with a desired turnaround time now of 2 to 3 weeks per test evaluation. A study amendment has been approved in line with this, and the study now broadly falls into three parts: (1) Novel test device and instrument evaluation: at the existing sites identified, and new sites are being sought; (2) Sample collection (nose and throat swabs, and saliva samples): to support the work of the Test Validation Group at the DHSC, and sites are being sought to support this; (3) Moonshot amendment, evaluation of specific devices at 15 testing centres (which are in the process of being identified), with analysis undertaken through Lighthouse Labs.

This board is depressing today, lockdowns and now dead celebs. Could you cheer us up with some positivity and the link to the presentation for good measure?

It’s a promotional article to brag about their expanded facilities. All it says is that they’re working with a developer. No mention of timescales at all. I’m not seeing an issue and we’re unlikely to hear how it’s going from Cytiva rather than an RNS.

I’m always a bit amused/bemused (can’t decide which) when comparisons are made to previous war generations. Generations that literally sacrificed everything. There will be some heroic stories from the NHS front line, but for the vast majority the war effort for this generation is drinking in the house and suffering TikTok.

Despite what happened earlier in the year, the govt have done it again. Ignored the scientific advice they’ve always claimed to have followed. If they’d shoved the brakes on earlier we might not have needed 4 weeks. It’ll be interesting to see if Wales’ approach of tagging a fortnight on half term is more effective. An earlier lockdown might have enabled a similar lockdown following xmas and some normality. Looks like the Scottish advice of prepare for a digital xmas will be the advice we need to follow. Sad state of affairs.

You've been here since 60p and haven't done the most basic research. NCYT have a £250m contract for PCR testing, which tells you if you have it. In fact it tells you if you have it even when you're not infectious. Anyway, they've risen on that contract so a market value around 3x sales. It's for a miniscule number of tests compared to a more useful LFD test that tells you if you're infectious. The contract for 100m+ a month will be worth £1bn a month. 3x that is £3bn, that's £12 a month in share value if the market values awacta equally.

The timescales we believe? but you've only ever referenced an at home test and we all believe that will be next year as that's what we've been told by Sir Al. There's no difference in opinion. Otherwise, couldn't give a flying....

That was mentioned as ordinarily it doesn’t make sense, but when put in context against the initial govt response to the pandemic they’ve now realised that they haven’t invested in diagnostics. That’s was the other main theme David brought out, that the whole industry should be more appropriately valued, in every sense of the word, in future

Fair enough Timster :-D. You’d think he was a govt spokesperson. It seems the main message he wanted to get across is that the govt are heavily involved, not just in the short term, but increasingly for the long term. He repeated that message in his opening comments, throughout and in summary. As he said, it’s not without risks bedding in with the govt, but as we’ve seen with Sona there are no guarantees elsewhere either. Personally I think it’s a good decision. Assuming all goes well then other countries will soon gain a lot of interest in the approach and more importantly the test. It feels we’re in for the very long haul here, so timescales to get the test manufactured won’t ultimately be an issue despite being painfully slow compared to the hope of summer. Still, crushing 3 years work in to 6-9 months isn’t a bad effort.

Worth watching, in particular the Q at 31 mins.

Summary of David Wilson - Very very active engagement, strategic objective, home source, manufacturing capacity. Significant effort underway, need to see if it can reach the scale. Govts can bring results at scale that wouldn’t be possible. Intention is there, huge challenge. What does it mean for Awacta? Short term - Could potentially have a very big customer for one or more of our tests (laughs) that could take substantial proportion or even everything, or nothing. Great opportunity. Long term - Govts have recognised the value and in growing the industry.
