There was someone suggesting the modelling had been done and the economy could be kept open with adjustments in education such as rotas for attendance in combination with remote working. He suggested a full lockdown now and then making the changes which would still allow full time education, just with half the face to face time. That would keep the r value down.

The charts were very clear, the timing and the age groups make it obvious that the younger generation is where it is spreading. They must be getting revenge on the boomers that have destroyed the environment... They also should have done the full lockdown at half term, by then r values were rising so they learned nothing from the delays earlier in the year. That's a fair point Bella. In the presentation Sir Al seemed a bit narky when it came to pointing out that he wasn't willing to push any risk down the line. He's probably been asked / pressurised by govt, Boris said months ago we'd have some normality by xmas. The govt are definitely frustrated and I'm sure Sir Al has them nagging him regularly. I'm pleased he's standing his ground rather than pushing out a test that isn't properly developed as that could backfire on everyone

Speaking of Chin-ah, they’re pretty much covid free. They’re controlling it by mass testing in any cities there is an outbreak. It’s the only way out of this mess. Huge national testing programme, get the r0 down, test at the borders, get monitoring in place and then tactically deploy tests where needed for years to come.
