Interesting thread on PHE data on the delta variant. Mainly spreading in younger age groups - as expected with less social distancing. Worrying hospitalisation and death figures given the exponential growth in cases and the lower efficacy of vaccines against it versus other variants. You’d ideally want to see the deaths broken down by age group though. Numbers look small, but exponential growth shows there could be a quite large third wave if these proportions are applied to a larger population. Also noted is the risk of further vaccine escape. There are fewer total cases and hospitalisations from those vaccinated (with 50% of the adult proportion fully vaccinated) which is good news though. The best thing to do is test, test, test to suppress it as much as possible alongside further vaccine rollout. The percentage of deaths is similar whether you’ve had a vaccine or not so some caution is still needed, even if you’ve had both jabs. Allowing it to run riot is not a good idea, so I’m sure the 4 week delay will happen.

A reasonably balanced discussion, they had a fella realistically supporting the use of LFDs and their benefits alongside someone arguing it’s been a waste of £2bn quid. It could very well have been a waste, she is correct that the studies haven’t been released. The final discussion point was about a lack of trust. That can be quickly regained by the launch of an accurate British test.

A further thought on today’s approval. The dominant strain here is now the delta variant, this is not the case in the EU. The order of the launch would be best suited to the EU first until we have confirmation the test works with the delta variant - which I’m sure it will.

Fair point, PresAl was quite insistent it worked, but the change was driven by ‘end users’ - basically one of many govt hoops. Nasal sampling has become the standard the world over so we’ve ended up in the right place though. It wasn’t necessarily wasted development, there might be other applications for drool in future and they’ll have the confidence they can handle that sample type.

Yeah, I remember reading a Canadian bulletin board and some were saying they were selling as they had gained a life changing amount when it was peaking. Incredible fall and disastrous for them, we always thought Darren lacked confidence on the Cytiva panel - I somehow doubt he’ll be working with them again. We’ve taken an age, but at least we’ve a world beating product at the end of it. Feel sorry for any that held in hope.

Share price down 70% today. All time highs 16p, now 0.32p. Nice one Klaus, so when he was saying it couldn’t be done it turns out he was right.

I disagree. The manufacturing contract was agreed a long time ago, the approval adds nothing further to this. Orders will now be incoming and that's the important thing. The price here has wobbled more than I anticipated since I bought in originally, but his should be the catalyst for the re-rate back to IPO levels and beyond. I personally prefer a cool, calm and collected approach when it comes to comms. I'd rather have meaningful RNSs than veer towards ODX with their childish tweets. Ultimately, despite a lack of any further confirmation, we know that the AffiDx test will sell and ABDX will be manufacturing it so everything should take care of itself. All we need for the cheery on top is for Innova to be fully displaced and the govt to sheepishly pay their bills.

I hope they fire them out multiple time during the day like Price Monitoring Extensions :-D

I expect others to pick up on this now, stories tend to get rehashed. I agree, it'd be nice for the Beeb to run with it - it'd be a nice story to contrast the US against the UK whilst the G7 is the headline story.

We've been forced down a separate path due to PD/govt and their slow, ongoing painful obfuscation. We've now got a CE marked best in class easy to use AN British test that's approved for sale in both the UK and EU. The final negotiation position has been taken.

Incidentally in their press release they said they’re ramping up production up to 70m annually from 55m. Must be a huge market out there, even for rubbish tests.

They were also going for a dribble test and changed to a nasal test. They’ve only just received EUA for their test. It’s rubbish. 84% sensitivity for symptomatic.
