It's a fairly scary spread, if it's right. I suspect the real spread is actually smaller than this, but nevertheless fairly off-putting.

It wouldn't surprise me if the FCA decide to fine the company for breach, rather than the perpetrators, thereby reducing shareholder value even further. Isn't that more or less what happened with the banks?

ST has written an article in this week's IC. He is most upset because he tipped Globo not so very long ago. He has contacted the FCA to make sure they are aware of what's been going on and to insist that the CEO and CFO are prosecuted. He says that the FCA didn't know about the CFO selling a large chunk of his shares until he told them. Well, is that a surprise?

So, if the FCA discovers wrong-doing, then presumably they will fine the company, thus reducing the shareholder value even further!?

Ash, as I've pointed out already, this report (like the one by Gotham) comes from the US so there is nothing that can be done under UK law to stop it. These people can say anything they like, they cannot be held to account.

This is so like the attack that was made on Quindell. Bear in mind that even if their claims are totally unfounded, no-one can touch them for it, so they can really make whatever claims they want. The claims don't have to stand up to scrutiny, just long enough to drive the SP down low enough for them to make a profit on their shorts. And that will probably happen regardless of whether their claims turn out to be true or false. Makes me wonder what part Ennismore have to play in this. There's a reason why these reports come out from the US rather than the UK!

I entirely agree Ash. It's not shorting that's the problem, it's the vile mud slinging to drive down the SP that's the problem. But I also believe that it's companies who leave themselves vulnerable who get this sort of attack. Whether the QCM report is right or wrong, Globo put themselves in a vulnerable position.

If QCM's report is correct, then the auditors should be taken to task. If it is not correct, then QCM should be held to account. Except we can't, because they are on the other side of the Atlantic. That's what is so unfair about this situation. People like Gotham and QCM can say anything they like about UK companies, and no-one can touch them.

what would happen to someone in the UK who published this kind of report about a US company? I imagine they would be hauled across the Atlantic to face the wrath of the US authorities.

Surely they must suspend trading first thing this morning? At least until the company comes out with some kind of statement.
