Retail generally will suffer - I wouldn't want to be invested in pubs/restaurants or clothing. But with reduced spending in these areas, Halfords should benefit as people spend more time tinkering with their cars. That's what I'll be doing anyway - starting with my alloy wheels.

It's difficult to judge the effects of the government's present panic over coronavirus. However, it's not all bad news.

Working from home does not mean you never go out. Reluctance to using public transport will push people into their cars or on to their bikes.

People won't be eating out, going to the theatre etc as much, if at all. More money therefore to spend on their cars and bikes.

There are negative factors as well. But if overall HFD suffers because of govt policy, it ought at least to be a prime candidate for the much-vaunted govt assistance schemes (though I'll believe it when I see it).
