Its a bit better than a 2 cent final dividend isn't it?
I appreciate the situation that you inherited, becoming CEO of Centamin and that you have been trying to put right the things that were being done or had been done wrong. I also appreciate that you are trying to grow the company and to open up other areas to mine and are investing money to do that. However, it would be nice if the dividend that has been declared and future dividends were higher. Could you please tell us shareholders how much profit the company has to make before we get a decent dividend and if the POG remains at its current levels, whether you have any plans for a special dividend? It does not seem right that the dividend is less than the interest that could be earned in even a modest savings account.
Yours sincerely
A long term shareholder.
If any of you can work it out on the back of a ciggie packet etc? Given that the policy is still supposed to be about returning 30% of the profit to shareholders, how much profit would they need to give a decent dividend?
I understand that the more they spend, the less profit there will be, but with the current price of gold (if it holds) and if production and AISC are at the midpoints, surely there should be enough for a decent dividend?
After Thursday and yesterdays fall in the POG, I try to cheer myself up a bit by thinking that it has dropped a bit but it is still at $2165. It would be nice if it climbs, but honestly, I think most of us would be happy if it stayed at that level for the year.
That's odd. I've just mentioned something similar on a post I've just put up.
I thought the rise yesterday was a bit overdone. I sold the ones I bought last week for 111.6 and put a limit order in to buy them back, plus a few more at 108.6. I was just about to cancel the order this morning, seeing the overnight drop in the POG and try and be greedy and get them a couple of pence cheaper, but I was too slow. It actually went through at 107.96) If I had some spare money in my ISA, I would have been tempted to get a few thousand more at 104/ 105.
I think the drop this morning is overdone as well. Probably a combination of "Profit taking" (or is that "loss reduction"? ), the fall in the POG, a bit of panic and it being a Friday.
When I saw the price up over 111 yesterday I was expecting it to fall back a bit, but I didn't sell the majority of my shares for fear of maybe missing out on a continued rise. I wish the dividend was a bit higher as that would make me feel more comfortable, and probably a lot of other LTH's as well.
With the drop in price today, I am back in the red with Centamin . I don't normally deal. but my last few trades here were selling at 99.5 (wrong!) and buying back at around 104 (I think), selling at 111.6 and buying them and a few more back at 107.96. Obviously the price has dropped a bit since then.
So--swings and roundabouts. I think I'm marginally in front compared to just holding, as I have a few more shares than I did.
I don't know if anyone could check/ keeps records, but it seems that whenever Centamin have a good days rise-----say 4% or more, that is usually drops back most of it the next day?
Hi Steve. I meant Dasut. He has worked in the business I believe. And he explains things very well. Enjoy your golf.
I am pleased you are happy with the RNS and hope that you will be happier with the Q1 next month. You understand the business and your posts are always interesting to read.
I am not too happy with the dividend being reduced again and I hope the dividend will start to grow pretty quickly. After this one, the next will be September? -----------and it is a long wait after that to see ---and we are not getting any younger!
For me it is fingers crossed that the POG stays high (I'd be happy if it hovered at $2150 for the year) . IF it does, and the other things fall into place for Centamin, then a special dividend as a "Thank you. We appreciate all the crap you have put up with over the years" would be nice.
With a high gold price and lower AISC, they should be able to increase the dividend a bit and still have money to invest.
Did I see in the RNS that production is slightly weighted to H2?
On a slightly different note, I sold some at 99.5 on the 5th of March, hoping to get back in at a couple of pence lower. It didn't happen and I had to pay 103.5 :-( . Oh well.
Did you get back in again after selling them all at a quid on the 5th of March Steve? What did you get back in at?
Hi Dasut. I just meant that if the £350 million in the bank was part of the reason for the share price being over £2 at the time, that if they got to that amount again, with the business seeming to be in better shape that the share price should be over the £2 mark.
That seems a pretty fair summing up to me. Given the situation when e took over, he seems to have been getting things put into place that need too be and should have been before e took over. I think MR T ? put up a post over a year ago where someone had said that Horgan was doing what needed to be done?
I think you are right that the time to judge is coming soon. With the waste contact coming to an end, hopefully AISC will be at the lower end of the the estimated figures for the coming year and the POG will hold at these levels. IF that happens we should get a decent dividend.
What will it take for that and a good rise in the share price? Well when we were up in the £2's , I think they had around £350 million in the bank? If they got anywhere near that figure, the share should be flying as Horgan has made the mine a properly working mine and not a short term, high grading , Ponzi scheme.
Just an idea.
If anyone is going to cut and paste stuff from years ago, that they put "HISTORIC" at the start of their message. That way it wont confuse people that it is new information.
Just an idea :-)
That is a very good post Mr T. I suggest you save it and re post it on a fairly regular basis. That would be much less confusing than reposting other things that give the impression (Unless you read it very carefully) that something is going on now. By that I mean the whole Kees Decker thing and other info from up to 9 years ago.
It does rather look like the last lot------Josef, Pardey, the e police chief filled their saddle bags at our expense-------And that some of the dividends paid at that time were to boost the share price, so they could sell and ride off into the sunset.
Anyhow, like I say keep this post and put it up maybe once a month.
Lets hope for some good news this week and also in April. Good news and the POG staying at this level, should perk things up a bit.
I think the Q1 results in April need to show better than "Steady as she goes+" . Being on target or better for ounces mined so they are not playing catch up later in the year would help. An update on the waste removal contract end date and a bit of news on "Little Sukari" project would also help. The dividend needs to be upped a bit, which they should be able to do, given the price of gold in the last 6 months.
So was he banned for trolling or did he flounce off with a few insults flying at people as he went?
Yes I thought we had already had the figures and that Aprils Q1 would be a better guide--------But that is another month away! Good news about "little Sukari" and a dividend would cheer me up a bit.
Gold is probably averaging around $2050 the last few months and any increase is nice, but I'd be fairly happy if we could stay above $2100. That price and lower AISC should give us a dividend and the share price a decent boost.
I don't think the market confidence has been restored in Centamin yet.
What do we reckon for the final results next week? A "Steady as she goes +" or better? I cannot see them having mined much more than predicted (but you never know) . Maybe the AISC are a bit better than predicted?
The recent rise in gold the last few months should help and maybe (fingers crossed) a bit of a bonus dividend.
I'm hoping that gold can hold these levels and that would enable us to get a decent dividend later in the year and also get the cash reserves up a bit and move forward with other projects.
Starting on one of the parcels of land they got in the auctions would make sense-------even though it would still mean they are a bit of a one trick pony.
I'm still down, but i sold some at 99.5 hoping to get them back at 97.5 --------so thank me for any rise!
So i cannot wave my W-ly about like some do on here!
Steve makes me smile.
Has anyone seen the Steve Coogan film "Greed"? I'm sure there is a line in there that goes "He's a self made man and he worships his creator every day"
Hopefully things will improve and the house will get built.
I know you wanted to put some of your previous dividends into tharisa as you though they were doing well. The share price has halved? since then?
I'm still out of pocket with Centamin and hoping that things start to improve soon. Centamin seems to be in a better place than a few years back and maybe even in real terms better than we were before that. Ie when the high grading was going on. There is still a lack of trust after the past and a couple of good figures are needed to bring some of that trust back.
I keep hoping that the dividend will be a good one-------------and an honest one, if you get my drift?
Have a good weekend.
Sotolo-----But I hope that they still mine more ounces :-) That and a high price of gold should help the dividend and the share price.
Mind you, a decent dividend (if we ever get one again) should help the share price.
We are due the final results in a fortnight, so the higher gold price should help there. Also it should help with Q1 results, of which we are half way there already.
What do you reckon the dividend will be and will you build your house?
