RE: Baffled!!30 Oct 2021 17:36
I hope VOD does regain some ground on its SP.
There appear to be a few brokers with a target price much higher than the current SP, which is reassuring.
There is some suggestion that Elon Musk is looking for a ground station infrastructure for its starlink satellite broadband service and may be in talks with Vodafone, if true this could improve things.
I must confess that I do not fully understand the thinking behind the share buy back programme, I would have thought the money is needed to reduce debt, maintain its costly infrastructure, and expansion. However I am sure the board know ehat they are doing and there must be a very good reason for the share buy back.
The fact that the dividend is not covered fully by profits is the thing that really baffles me.
It has improved its dividend cover to 0.90 this year, from 0.62 (2020), 0.70 (2019), 0.77 (2018) and 0.54 (2017). But a dividend that consistently fails to be covered by profits is most definitely a problem.
It would appear to me that unless things change a dividend cut is unavoidable, and that will always have a negative effect on the SP.
I can only imagine the board have a very cunning plan Baldrick.
