Vedanta was a good share for day trading - can anyone suggest a replacement?

If you buy now, you will buy ex-div - ie. you will not get the dividend but you would get the take-over price.

My broker will allow me to buy.

Golden Shares - yes, you are quite right, the drop was 5% not 10% and I should have checked my figures before posting. Abject apologies.

Discgolfer - I congratulate you on your initiative - I have always been wary of daytrading my smallholding of 1500 shares but clearly it can be very profitable

Discgolfer - congratulations on building up such a large holding and selling them at (presumably) a good profit. I imagine that before selling, you had taken into account the fact that had you kept your shares and sold them into the offer, you would have gained another £1653.00. Well done, that man!

The results are not good - profit before tax is down 16% from £341.4m to £293.8m and eps has dropped from 20.06p to 16.7p per share. The sp is down over 10% on these results and I really cannot agree with Paul Geddes,the CEO, who has described them as " a good set of results."

The interim divi is up marginally from 6.p to 7.0p per share but I am not sure when the ex-div date is.

This is an American stock and you need to complete a Form W-8BEN before you can trade which you can get from your broker.

I see from the offer details that completion of the offer is expected in Q4 of 2018, so taking into account the 28-day period for issuing the offer plus say another 28 days for acceptance, we are looking at a payment date of around mid October.
Also, re equivalent value of the share offer, is this not £8.56 per share made up of £8.25 offered plus 31p dividend?
Some holders are selling out now to avoid the wait but at a lower price.

I wonder if a bottom was reached yesterday? There has been a bit of a turnround today and on this board buyers outstrip sellers by 12 to 5 with a consequent 1p rise. More to come?.

TheMega1 - thanks for this info. Does this mean that Anil Agarwal is likely to proceed with his offer of £8.25 per share? If so, he should get a move on as I gather that he must proceed or withdraw by 31 July.

I agree that management has not kept us properly informed..

Skippy999 and others - it is no use moaning when the sp drops - this is a normal reaction to buying and selling. Petra share price will only rise if the fundamentals are correct - which I believe they are - and if management takes the right decisions in running the company.

Am I right in thinking that JB has previously advised us that a statement on the progress of Part 1 of the Phase three trials will be made by the end of this month?

Drusus - you are quite right, Vedanta plc., who declared the large divi, is a subsidiary of Vedanta Resources in which we are invested. As you say, some of the �600 million could be used to increase our final dividend.
