yep, sort of what i'm doing. Good tenants which as you'll know can be hard to find. I'm keeping them sweet. They been well screwed by their work stuff so i'm ok to take the hit really although they say they'll back pay it all & everything. I'm not too bad off though, some BTL guys must've been wiped out by the C19 stuff for sure!

BB, i got a BTL investment too. I been a bit stung on the rent due to C19. Bit of a long shot but do you know if i can offset lost rents against CGT gains over the 12.5k threshold?

The trading update will decide for me whether to go ahead on this one. I like the fundamental business and if losses not too bad & no need for RI or cash call, i think i'll put a few bob in here. My concern about all the talk of RCFs & CCF as cash source is that i've seen this all before on a few shares which ended up with RIs. IAG claimed in July to have £8bn in available equity. Next minute we all got shafted!

james24, i don't know what platform you use but the bigger players at least will send you a consolidated statement which will show all your transactions throughout the financial year. This will show your net realised gain/loss for tax purposes & should be suitable for a self assessment purpose. I don't believe you can carry forward any losses from one year to another. As i understand each financial year starts as a fresh slate. Hence why you get a flurry of buy/sell activity at end/start of the financial year!

So a £22m loss in the 6 months March-Sept according to HY report. So i would guess a trading update of £10m loss from Sept-Jan would probably be the expected forecast here. Anything less will probably move this one up!

in terms of calculating profits when you buy a share at different price levels & then sell some for a profit. The profit is based on the most recent transaction. However if all the shares are bought within 30 days of each other you work out the overall average of them. For example i bought 2 tranches of BP at end of Oct, start of Nov for an average overall of about 205. I also bought a tranche last week at 257. If i sold some say tomorrow i would for profit purposes be deemed to have sold the 257p ones for 41p gain not the 205 ones for 93p gain. Hope that makes sense!

JP you can make 12.5k profit outside an ISA tax free in the year. That is your overall allowance for the year on all your investments. next year (assuming same allowance) you put £20k in ISA & all £20k of those shares is free of tax (CGT & income on divis). As an example i've got @ 8k of BP in an ISA for this year total of £20k worth. I will not have to pay any CGT on these & i could also sell my ones outside the ISA without risking CGT liability!

Dubious, unfortunately Government backed does not mean Government guarantees private investors money. Do you think RBS investors got all their money when UK Government bailed it out in 2008/2009 crisis?

Steve, for sure IAG if you got in pre vaccine @ sub £1 you got a winner. In June/July/August it was like being in a horror film! you got out at a nice price there. That share been well overblown. Trading @ 2019 prices now. Bizarre. That bubble will burst for sure!

This is a nice safe bet. A long term guaranteed earner. I been in & out on loads of shares. Got well stung on IAG in the Summer but this is one share which never caused me any sleepless nights. No risks of failure here & good income share. No brainer this one. Keep your RR/Blockchain/EUA/GGP. this is the one!

This was over £7 in 2006. Factoring inflation that's nearly £10 in today's money!
