Last year we had an End of Year update on 3rd Feb. Maybe this time around AB could be persuaded to provide better clarity as to how he sees enhanced Shareholder valve being delivered in the near term , for his LTH ‘s made weary by an inept UK Government’s policy towards an essential industry !

PS. Was also very encouraged by the high level of air passenger traffic seen whilst travelling thro Asia recently. No sign of recession out there and China will be catching up soon !

Perhaps we should just trade the stuff rather than go to all the effort of extracting it. I see Swiss based Trafigura reporting its net profit for 2022 had more than doubled to $7 billion, thanks to trading an average of 6.6m barrels a day. Lucky for its traders now sharing a bonus pool $1.7 billion. No WTF for them, how they must laugh at us !

Give it time . Also ironic that Brent has now fallen 35% since the Windfall Tax was first imposed, without that earlier blip we ourselves may have escaped notice a little longer. No sign of any Government ‘floor’ yet …a couple of months below $40 could work wonders ( with hedges in place ) !.

It certainly pays to watch the weight of professional money placed Short as these guys tend to be right more times than wrong. Witness Marshall Wace Directors sharing more than £720 million in profits this year & who were fairly negative of BOO for a long time .

Well ‘Mop Head’ certainly pulled the rug, even J P Morgan’s Digital Analyst is worried “ Given the size and interlinkages of FTX with other entities in the crypto ecosystem, it looks likely that a new cascade of margin calls, deleveraging and crypto company/platform failures is starting “.He’s predicting a 25% fall from here ….. none of this is exactly a robust investment is it !

Reuters latest poll showed the expectation that the Fed will raise by 50 basis points at its Dec. 14 meeting , lower than the previous four consecutive 75 bps hikes. Also OPEC+ hold a policy meeting on Dec. 4…..they only have one interest, and it ain’t about reducing emissions !

Well i’m not buying or selling yet, just slightly envious at other sectors benefitting from overall higher prices that escape sanction, witness Tesco’s projected operating profit for ‘22/23 now at £2.5bn !!…. where’s there WFT !. Anyway will just sit this out.

How the UK’s O&G Sector are now supposed to navigate such a long tail industry within such a volatile Tax regime with undefined parameters, beats me . Hopefully AB has more positive news to deliver next week, we need it.

Interestingly the Market doesn’t seem to share the same optimism as many here. Normally high expectations leach across to valuations the closer news is anticipated. Whilst I’m personally not bothered as a LTH, the release of awaited results may only get us so far, as reflected in current sentiment. The real driver could be further away.

Boring but steady progress which is beginning to be expected and what’s needed
for long term investments. Leave all the excitement to others chasing AIM dreams !

“Non-dom is also a joke”…not if you are one ! Having paid substantial tax into the UK I’m now quite relaxed spending every penny derived from rental income / dividends / pensions etc. elsewhere…..rather than give it to the UK Treasury to waste !

Also note the Chancellor previously said “ in the energy industry, it is very cyclical industry and there are businesses that have periods of feast and famine and you have to be very careful that you don’t tax companies in a way that drives away investment “. Think we’ll be fine.

Given everyone in the UK seems currently transfixed on some MP self promoting himself out in Australia, you can’t blame the Chancellor joining in with his own bucket of cold slime. We probably should be grateful if he allows us to retain 65%, ignoring all those past years of sheer toll !
