Regarding Nigoil, there was a time (a very long time ago) when he seemed almost credible - at least his posts initially seemed to be reasonably sane (which most people probably don't remember), but he then went nuts and now just posts nonsense.

Not sure the 60-day extension is a given - I suspect it would have to be justified.
If the possibility of a 60-day extension is provided within the rules, then I'm afraid the Italian State must be treated like everyone else, otherwise they'd use that as the excuse to cry 'foul play'.

So, we just have to endure this painful process, but at least there IS an end date and the Italians won't be able to claim that the tribunal discriminated against them.

Not quite sure how many more times this has to be repeated, but unless you believe you can influence the outcome (e.g. you are an Italian Duke, or something), then how about we just wait for the outcome.

Something the 'OOC settlement brigade' appear to overlook is that, in this case, The Italian State would have to be actively seeking to be involved in reaching an OOC settlement.

No doubt many OOC settlements are made after various legal hearings have completed, but the principle remains that OOC settlements are usually to avoid all the cost, delays and aggro associated with going through the full legal process. One reason for following the full process is because of the enforcement facilities provided by the authorities. Once those processes are complete, the claimant can then enforce the ruling/award.

This discussion is reminiscent of the kids in the back of the car constantly repeating: "are we nearly there"?

Anyway, it depends what you mean by 'invest'. Yes, BOR is significantly dependent on SL getting sanctioned, but once that's done, BOR will benefit from all the infrastructure needed for SL and all the other work done for SL, much of which will provide a template for Darwin and the rest of the SFB licences (of which RKH holds many).

So if you're looking for production and profit from the SFB, I agree you've got a long time to wait, but the BOR sp will react very positively long before that once SL FID has been made and then on to sanction.
World demand for gas isn't going to abate, perhaps for ever, so it's NOT madness to put a couple of bob E/W on BOR and then just forget about it for the time being.

DD77, totally agree that a 'settlement' would be a great idea and a weight (and unnecessary distraction) off everyone's minds

BUT and it's a very BIG BUT, which is that any 'settlement' does not involve any payment to Argentina for anything whatsoever.
As others have so rightly stated, any payment (your 'goodwill gesture' stuff) immediately has implications of some wrongdoing, for which the payment is being made in compensation/restitution.

Actually, I believe Sam IS actively working on a solution right now, which doesn't involve bribing a bullying and hostile regime.
The Peronists use 'Las Malvinas' as an effective distraction from their own issues, especially when things are going wrong domestically.
As Ralph so correctly points out, Argentina may not be a great military threat right now, but that change change very quickly and the Chinese dimension is a considerable concern.
Navitas couldn't give a flying fig about any Argentinean threats and the Israelis are helping to provide FI defence systems.
