So, bad luck for the weak-willed, who, if they want to climb aboard again, will have to pay extra, instead of just ignoring the doom buffoons, getting on with something else and staying invested where they were.

That was supposed to be more-or-less what nuclear fusion would deliver, but the boffins are finding it so much more difficult to work at all, still less commercially. The politicians were advised that it's about 30 years away, but it has remained "about 30 years away" for the past 60, or 70 years, with only a little progress.

In the mean time, the oil magnates capitalised (and still do) on oil/gas to keep the lights on, while the boffins tried to get fusion to work.

As for thorium salt nuclear reactor technology, don't really know enough about that, except that it doesn't produce Plutonium. The big political decisions about such things were made post-WW2 and during the ever more freezing Cold War, so, with nuclear fusion believed to be just round the corner and the perceived need for even bigger and better nuclear warheads for Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD - which it is), I suppose thorium salt nuclear reactor technology didn't stand much of a chance.

Thatcher was a great MAD exponent, but MAD relies on the other side (e.g. Russia/Putin) being at least rational and sane, so that seems to have gone out of the window this year too.

I don't believe there are many who don't accept that we have to move to renewables ASAP for everyone's sake - especially for our children and grandchildren.

The problem is that renewable implementation has not been fast enough, has not allowed for any contingency if things go wrong (e.g. the Ukraine war) and also that even switching to renewables also involves some environmental damage, particularly in the excessive use of some minerals.

I believe the environmentalists have had too much influence, which might have been OK if nothing had gone wrong, but things have gone wrong and now we find ourselves unable to afford to live, so we have to resort to more hydrocarbons to take the strain, at least for a while.

Cheers SH - my 'probably' was only to acknowledge that Navitas would 'probably' prefer to get on with SL production, without an annoying 'wasp at a picnic' neighbour making threats.
However, I suspect that Argentina might be inclined to tone things down where Israel is concerned, as we all know that tangling with them usually ends badly.

So far, not much coming from Argentina, but no doubt they'll find it irresistible before too long, especially when an election is looming.

Another 'Tick' SH is that Navitas probably won't give a monkey's about Argentinean sabre rattling, unlike most others.

ANY / EVERY project involves 'hurdles' and how to get over them.
It's about creating the right/best team to achieve that successfully that matters, which in the case of SL hasn't been achieved until now.
However, with Navitas taking the lead, able to use the preparatory work done so far, that gives this project the best chance ever - right now.

Well, we're all on the edge of our seats, waiting for something, but probably not that.

Wonder if it's partly a kite flying exercise to see what the reaction is, especially environmental?

At the moment, we really do need that oil/gas.

In view of the current climate issues and post-COP26 environmentalist pressures, which are completely legitimate, I would reckon that anyone having to sign-off something like this would prefer to do so with the minimum of publicity and fuss, which I would support.
