For myself, gosh what a year, up on the year despite holding a reasonably quantity of SBRY shares. The P/F has funded my dental treatment and other things as well . Hot many thanks for nurturing this green horn through the minefield of spread betting. I am only now just getting the hang of it and hopefully will get in to profit next year . currently still trying to get back those mega indices losses. Last night i traded the Hong Kong HS50 and took a few points from it. I am beginning to see some patterns developing and i hope to trade the indices and forex on a longer term and more profitably soon. With spread betting its very black and white isn’t it? There is no middle way you either are successful or you go bust, end of !! . Guys I am off to Yorkshire for the next few days then two glorious weeks in Gran Canaria, then one last trip to Slovakia. Hi guys, I got off to a good start today, picked up profits on shorts on Dax, Gold, Euro/ Dollar and a long on Dollar /Japan. Trying to work out which way the ftse was going to go on very thin indecisive volumes, so I put on small short and it tricked me when it shot up, being dragged up and held up by miners . May be its miners year, they had it rough all last year, everything is cyclical. Hot. I heard you mention Eliot Wave theory. I am aware of it looked into it but don’t use it. I got a book for Christmas on Ichimoko cloud candle theory. It looks totally fascinating but I think I will need a brain transplant to work it all out. Tomorrows another day. Good luck all

Hi Jdf7 your strategy sounds good to me. If you are working from a fundamentalists point of view rather than a technical one, buying and holding FTSE 250 shares for the long term works fairly well. If you have time on your side and you can reinvest dividends over the long term it works very well. I agree its best to filter out bulletin board noise and just follow your own senses. Diversify your portfolio as and when you can and try and not get too spooked by market ups and down. Saying that I do advocate stops, even if they are a very long way down remember Tesco last year. For your strategy the key really is time for some of us older participants we need to move in different ways and work the markets on much shorter time frames. Saying that most of us on this board have a long term P/F which we have built up over the years. If you recall Jeremy 53, he openly admits that the knows nothing much about the markets, he just constantly reinvests his dividends in his shares and more or less leaves it alone. The very odd tweak here and there its worked extremely well for him but he has been doing for a long time. The only thing I disagree with you is your last sentence .” I need to do better with myself!” You are doing fine don’t put yourself under pressure, Look at what you have achieved rather than what you haven’t. Happy Christmas all, some poignant words from JDF7 I would say we have all learned a lot this year. The main lesson for my self is to diversify ones portfolio. The stock market is more or less a game of probability's. We have all worked that one out. A mate of mine took all his money out of the stock market and bought £40,000 worth of premium bonds. A few years of ago i would have said he was mad, so far this year he has made £900 plus he still has all his money, well, cant argue with that. Happy Christmas all, we will be back, a little older, no more wiser, a few pounds heavier. but with luck and good fortune on our side "this time next year we will all be millionaires"

Hi guys I had a good day on US equities on Friday, my plan was to hold on to profits for longer term but I couldn't resist taking profits when Wall Street hit the day’s high. Hot not sure about short on Brit it’s certainly over bought on the RSI but MACD is still in positive territory and the 100 day ma giving support. Price has popped out of the top Bollinger band though. I guess it depends on FTSE sentiment on Monday. I have a short running on Avon product INC that’s been doing well. Good luck guys

Slightly tough luck on your Rio sell GS but relatively small loss, which I know you will soon get back.. you always do! Nice trading on your indices over the year Hot well done to you. I know that you need nerves of steel and to make consistent profits is a testimony to your trading skills. I wish I could trade them as well as you and I wish you continued good fortune. My SP bank is a bit depleted so I have gone square on all indices now and probably until the New Year. Opened up a position on Hewitt Packard today at .24p for a maybe long, long they are getting into 3d printing and allegedly will be 3 times faster than current 3d printers. Guys sold out of Brit today at its high of £2 61 I’ve been a bit disappointed with Brit so saw a chance to take some profit. Gs, my CSN Chesnia shares went up 14.5 p today yippee for that. Hi guys what a weird year, so volatile!! I am out of all Oil positions on the rises and won’t be going back in for now. Ftse who knows where its really going to go tomorrow. Big daily fluctuations in the markets suggest thin trading. The dax still not quite over sold on RSI so it could go down again anytime soon. Dollar really strong against most currencies, record 10 year lows yields on sovereign bonds in G7 and euro zone countries. Weird going’s on in with the euro against the Swiss franc in Switzerland . It’s still really hard to make any long term investment decisions. or any decisions at all to be honest I have a couple of longs on IG with a USA bank and a USA insurer . both just crossing the 400 day moving average so they should be ok for a while ( I hope) Really good to see BRIT take off today, its put a bit of blue in my trading account Good luck all

I took up the free cavity wall "install" a few years ago, yes it does make a difference and i understand about the red dust. all over the place. Worst yetsr should have said worse year

Currently sat in nice warm cafe/ bar in Southern Slovakia drinking fresh orange juice. Hoping traffic control computer failure hasnt delayed my flight. Due to fly out of Bratislava later tonight.. Ftse bigest weekly fall since April 2011 I believe. Worst yetsr I have had mainly due to large Sainsbury holding and a few oils. Good job I picked up some decent work at the back end of the year Will there even be a Christmas rally Hot ? Fantasy shares sounds good to me at least you cant lose money.

Hi Guys, good to see you back Hot. I have nothing positive to report, got stuffed on all my oil trades and even when I ran a short on crude it turned long and stopped me out ( I am sure they are watching sometimes paranoia setting in). Off to Slovakia tomorrow for the rest of the week so that will put paid to any trades for a while. Good luck all

I see you are back into oil ditto I am back in Shell B and have a long on daily US light crude both currently red but am hoping. Thanks Gs that is interesting about the HL wealth 150. I think they have their own agenda. It does appear that they are ok funds but nothing special. Its the usual caveat, "do your own research" Well done though GS for working that out bought in this morning will wait and see

Hi Hot thanks for encouragement yes its coming back slowly, much slower than it went out !! Dax yes looking bullish but highly over bought on the daily chart so I am with you on a small short . If it stays below that 10000 level we should be ok.. Dow again similar isn’t it, looks very bullish but very over bought and probably ready for a pullback. Ftse again over bought could retrace down to 6650 level. Gold can’t work it out very thin trading probably good, to close half of your short. Will revise all indices tomorrow

Out of FTSE short in profit, also picked the right time this morning to do a short on the Dax and picked up a decent profit. Plus just closed a long on GBP / USD at decent profit. I still have some way to go to make up for those unforgeable indices losses but bring it on IG
