Interview with MKS boss on radio 4 right now. A lot of pi's forget they have a strong online business. "-- Growing online: we are the UK's second largest online clothing business and the largest in many essential product categories, so will use this opportunity to increase our online penetration." "While there are many uncertainties, we expect to come through this period in a strengthened competitive position. We have a strong Food business and can balance activity between our operations under the single M&S brand. We have a well-developed online proposition in Clothing & Home and a 50% shareholding in Ocado Retail, the UK's fastest growing pure play online retailer. M&S is a strongly cash generative business and has access to very substantial facilities and liquidity. The Board remains confident of the transformation programme and does not believe that the long-term value of M&S beyond the coming year will be impacted by the virus. We will update the market as events evolve. We will report our Full Year Results on 20 May 2020."

Thanks for the heads up on Mks div or lack of T. They must be struggling a bit with their preparation and transformation into OCDO's underling closing down stores etc. Wont be parting about with shares like that anymore. Very interesting interview with the head of Mid Wynd trust on how they pick stock and the sectors they move into. He runs the trust with just two assistants and try to keep the portfolio down to 60 shares in all global exchanges. He thinks 7% per annum is a good return over ten years. Pretty industry standard. So I'm thinking getting into trusts when there has been a huge sell off like now must be a good time to get in on the low part in that average. Do you still trade like this in a normal market or should I say a more stable market. Surely you must trade a lot less?

Ok S whats your last wish? I must say I felt a bit like that this morning. But the market confounds sometimes. When you feel its hopeless it bounces back, and then of course the other one over confidence. Struggled to get trades away which I guess is a good sign managing to squeeze in some more Kape. You know whats happening when they won't let you in. Upping the frigging price. At least I didn't pay top dollar today and its kept rising. Even CNC recovered affair bit on the edge of capitulating. Always a bit nervey when you see some big sells but once they are done not always bad.

The main difference between the way The Brits and Americans seen to be handling everything is we have long queues to stock up on paracetamol and the Americans have long queues to stock up on guns. Very different approach to the same thing. So I had a little spend up myself and didn't buy any Shell or Bp, but got some more Kape Tech that announced new funding which is what I was hoping to see and decided to get some exposure to America, having said I would avoid trusts, it seems the best way to go and these have dropped too temptingly and below nav MNKS, SMT, run by Ballie Gifford and MYW run by Artemis, who are buying back there own shares. So extra big wallop there. They should be ready to shoot the hell out of that virus and bounce back as Trump predicts even though it doesn't look like it right now.

Mks hurts more than missing the rise on OCDO. Sold MkS for a small profit at £1.85. So nearly bought back at 77p, but it makes you think somethings really wrong here and no director buys. Tell you what is funny O my list of stocks to buy looks like the best plan for shorts ever. If I was into shorting that is. Think its telling me something

Talking of drops IWG down to £1.02 from £4.50 before Corona. Director has been buying millions for himself and increased buy backs. They must have virtually no income at present. Any thoughts S as we are 2 previous holders I believe. In fact I had nearly 30k in at one point, in part thanks to the rise. Thank the lord I got out before the election. G all you can do is set a buy limit when market gets frantic. They have the same problem as OCDO can't cope with excessive trading!

Only just read your end bit! No don't stop. Thats the whole point to share views and to learn in this very complex and strange world. We are very privileged to be able to do this at all and its right that we take it as seriously as we do, and in a light hearted way too sometimes! I thank you. Morning T. Horse bolted springs to mind. The evidence seems to be inconclusive on shorting. I remember when the Halifax collapsed 6 of its employees were given jail sentences connected with shorting the their Bank. Not so sure it was because of the way they celebrated after or the personal gain. Banks were shorting themselves but that was a desperate attempt to save themselves. I think your post on the new Governor talking about the moral aspect is more to the point. I was told that you can demand that the shares you own are not Lent to shorters in the first place. That should be a given, or shorter should be charged for the privilege at the very least. Like a lot of laws the mechanism already exits to stop it. It just needs implementing

S probably wise to avoid small caps particularly. Its been a long slow slog for CNC but seem to be getting there until the virus. I can't see how it won't effect every company to a degree although a lot try pretend it won't. The more honest ones say they simply don't know. Now I see Ocado have had to suspend its online service to catch up with unprecedented orders. There's a surprise. Should add more fuel to the sp.

S the dentist sounds the perfect venue to trade shares in this environment. All logic is out the window, and no doubt curved balls will come flying out of the Pentagon and Downing Street to completely wrong foot us. Well thats my excuse anyway. Marginally better close on Dow than it was looking earlier. Just bought back Soft Cat and more Concurrent today which had fallen back again but goes ex div tomorrow . Cant help looking at stock and thinking thank god I didn't buy that. But most of all thank god I sold all the trusts. The strange thing is I have bought some of the stocks they are in and have done quite well, but the trusts themselves have all fallen a ridiculous amount. Must be something to do with their gearing I guess. Supermarkets are on a short term spike apparently. Strange it coincided with the business rate holiday. Expected to revert back when normal conditions resume. Nice opener by the Dow below 20,000. Just climbed back but could close below I would think. Value is out there in very small places. Was going to jump back into BBY , now run by Les Quinn of Quinn estates. That explains their turnaround. But worried about site closures due to virus. Two Universities in Canterbury. Well done for holding your nerve G. It looks like a win win situation on OCDO. Bound to be some retrace. Entirely depends on your situation. I see good old Sainsbury just surged 10% on res about business rates for retails and they don't even know what the deal is yet. I thought hey were only deferred. Yes about double world record oversupply in oil. The saudis and Russians originally got together to support the oil price and now are hell bent in a battle to drive each other under. Oil usage could peak around 2035, so plenty of time for recovery but could be a fairly long wait. In the mean time we still all get ripped at the pumps.

G. Have noticed spreads are big on a lot of stocks whether going up or down with apparently no trades. Will wait till Dow opens I think. Missed two stocks I wanted to buy. Sometimes they appear to drop 4% then back up 3% and thats the profit for the day gone in the blink of an eye.
