Hi S. Well MKS is bloody 86p now. We get lulled into thinking its been around for years its an institution. Alarming similarities with Woolworths. They owned property, sold it and leased back. We all know what happened next. Trouble for MKS and many retailers they get behind the gain line and are forever trying to catch up and that costs. No saying that MKs can't turn around but they havnt made it easy for themselves before this virus hit. I think this is nervousness before results and when they come I expect that could be more pain before going back up. They have a very good team and advisors, this is going to be quite some battle.

S. Should have paid more attention to the vid with Justin King recently. Makes me wonder whether he has overpaid. Both he he and the other and the other advisor say too much being made of online grocery. Even if it was to double which he said would be a logistical nightmare it still only going to increase market share by 1%. In the mean time MKS have a load of merchandise that is going nowhere I their remodelled superstores and redundant lease that could be on the books for a few more years yet. I got out on a small spike @92p so not too much damage there in fact I bought some at 91p yesterday should have been a warning not an invitation!

Morning all. Yes T, a bit of reality checking I think. Think you were right to stay out of mks S. Only saw the Guardian article on John Lewis and Primeark last night. I would have thought this regurgitated news was priced in as far as MKS concerned, but actually looking at Mks director buys look rather limp-wristed for directors on salaries like theirs. and they have visited the 70's recently and not talking about their fashion range. With so much uncertainty volatility has subsiding for the time being probably just hold and possibly add to a few positions.

Well done S. If they are on their way to £40 they are not even half way yet! I didn't realise MKS was about 40% owned by institutions. The other day the buys were for millions and now all the sell trades are around the £1500 area. All looks highly suspicious to me. SO Mks is now less than half its placing price to take a stake in OCDO retail.

S. I can understand that. I think TLW has probably lost more people money than most. I'm impressed they managed to find some one go that calibre, although I guess even top jobs in the industry must be hard to come by right now. OCDo continues up and Mks continues in the other direction. Guess they'll meet somewhere eventually!

on the other such a great update from FXPO. Reduced debt, operation costs benefitting from low oil and decided to pay special and final div. Not too many of those out there at the moment

That looks like a good appointment for Tullow. Ex Vedanta, ex Cairn. Almost tempted. Keep an eye on that one

its the short positions still on mks that are a small concern. Could be hedging bets I suppose . Hard to work out what there trading range is. Also number crunching out next month which could be painful. AFX announce director departure yesterday but not till October. He has a million shares in the company and took part in recent placing. Have been a few consistent decent buys.

As tempting as it is I think I might want a clearer picture of where and how far the Dow is going before opening anything new today

Hi S. I thought about GGP like I thought about when it was 3p. Och. Typical. My previous experience of gold miners just kept me out. I dumped Mks this morning after making a few quid. Too tempting as Its obviously going to be a while before they get on a firmer footing. Still not clear about all the property they are stuck with. Not like retailers are going to be queueing up to take on their leases. On the other hand when they take over properly from Waitrose with OCDO the sky looks limitless. None the less pricing will still be very competitive more than ever.

More interestingly is that Berkshire Hathway have yet to make any significant purchases in the current turmoil, but don't suppose they sold much either. Know they were very indifferent to tech stock a few years back, would have thought they would need to address that by now.

A few economies trying to take the breaks off, but we're still not ready. In a way it will be good to see how other countries get on. We are all in very different situations. No point in trying to compare with countries like Sweden, and New York is obviously going to be held back from the rest of the US. Made a few switches last week and hopefully a couple of opportunistic plays I wasn't planning on which I hope I won't regret. Looks like some of the mines will start rumbling again soon, although still some confusion unsurprisingly with governments uncertain how far to go. A bit like trying to restart the grand national with everyone raring to go!

Pleased with MKS. Would be happier if those shorts closed. I picked up some Barc yesterday. No shorts there. Stokopedia call it a value trap, but if you can make 5/6% a day that's my kind of trap. SLP (platinum) FXPO (ore) both up 6%. Some decent consecutive buying on AFX. Will need a good update to get it moving. So worth giving that some time I think. Top performer has been been small cap WYN (food and farm suppliers). Highest rated on Stokopedia value and ranking along with SLP. SLP could double but the risk of course is its in South Africa. Otherwise would double my holding. Just about anywhere in the world is riskier than uk. The only thing we have it seems is OCDO! lol

700 pointer north on dow futures after Japans 3% rise and despite 6% drop in China's gdp. You would think it kind of obvious that with the world grinding to a halt that we would see figures like this. The other problem for China is the emergence of competitive manufacturing in other regions. I understand the imf caution the global economy but to say its going to be worse than any other recession is immature and irresponsible, and if its it was, what are they planning to do about it. Nothing.
