Thats exactly right S. They don't want a load of shops on multi floored buildings with long expensive leases or the staff pension schemes. We know what Philip Green has been like in this regard. The brand like M&S is strong throughout the world. Like it or loathe it, it takes decades to build that up. They have many exclusive quality brands. I think people didn't really appreciate how much work that Debenhams had already done in setting up a website already with a huge client base. It also opens many new markets, cosmetics household etc, and older and wealthier clients. I wouldn't be surprised to see both ASc and Boo find themselves a few brand new mega stores in high footfall retail areas in the not too distant future. Its more the long term that excites me. I simply don't know how long it takes to integrate and expand the business to justify the acquisition price. Sounds huge, but I think will prove to be an absolute bargain. I suppose does look a little like Barclays and RBS competing to buy the Dutch Bank, but I think they have more senses than bankers and are not likely to bid against each other. they know which bits suit each other better, and not focussed on one target. The moto is not to compete with the opposition but crush them, which has pretty much been done for them by COVID, although high street shops have been struggling to stay relevant for most of this century to be fair.
