Hounddog, unfortunately, the business has been using the "£1m losses" phrase for so long (I believe that Crozier started it off) that anyone who has been an employee for more than fifteen years takes it with a pinch of salt.
I'm a bit confused. Apparently Badenock is meeting with Kretinsky this week to discuss his takeover plans however as Parliament has been dissolved then this would be at odds with protocol, unless the Tories are treating it as some kind of special event or emergency?
Ispy, DSA is indeed a strange beast. Take Screwfix for example. I have their app on my phone and usually order on the app but they still see value in sending me a skinny brochure along with discount codes and I actually enjoy flicking through the pages of offers and more often than not, I will make a purchase. So to anyone who thinks that letters are dead.....think on.
Brendyboy, I totally agree with you regarding DSA but you mentioned letters which made me wonder if you meant all letters. Obviously the UK Government would not be happy if he binned letter box collection mail.
Brendyboy, "he just bins the letters side of royal mail". What exactly do you mean? I realise that he is a ruthless billionaire but surely it wouldn't do his reputation any favours to make promises to the UK Government then go back on his word?
JB, Redceo, I totally agree with your statements. My own thoughts are that neither the CWU nor RM would be in their current positions if Terry Pullinger hadn't been taken I'll at the critical point of negotiations. In my opinion Dave Fraud is and will never be in the same league as Terry when it comes to negotiations.
AbjectPerformer, I assume that you are asking as a RM employee?
If you have been paid £25k then this will be logged as earnings so far for the year by HMRC. If you are taking IHR then a certain amount of your payment may be tax free but you should get a breakdown from HR and it will give you your options. If it's a pension lump sum then RMSPS or RMPP will give you a breakdown and your options.
Hurtsparrow, I believe that the original purchase where tax and NIC was avoided does not have to be repaid however if you have many shares in the scheme (5 years at £100 a month would be £6k) then you might be liable if you have exceeded your personal allowance?
Numnut, if your shares were purchased within the last five years you would normally be subject to tax and NIC however I believe that I'm this instance it's treated in the same way as someone leaving the business in which case tax and NIC are waived.
Hounddog, so DK only needs 50% plus a vote to take control? Presumably this doesn't include his 27.5% holding or does it? I know that it has been said before that it would need to go to the shareholders to vote however hypothetically should DK gain the support of the six or seven largest holders and secures the 50%+ required, would it still need to go to a vote or would that be undemocratic? Also do non voting shareholders count for or against the motion?
Darbo, over the weekend, I went for lunch with a couple of ex colleagues who still work for RM and one of them is a SB8. They are all taking their NRA60 and/or NRA65 pensions but their current thinking is that they want DK to buy IDS as the running of the operation is currently an absolute shambles due to the legacy of the previous CEO who put plans into place that were never going or never intended to work. In essence they are just hanging around to watch the fall of the empire and waiting to see if it can be rebuilt but don't really care either way. They all have their free shares plus have been buying £100 worth per month for around five years using the employee scheme so the have a fairly low average.
Nice to see my screen without any green messages.......
RE: Full year results just been announced . Although I don’t see an RNS for it24 May 2024 18:06
Hurtsparrow, the £50m fine is small fry compared to Whistl's claim which I believe is around £600m. RM will have to defend the claim robustly as losing the case would be a disaster for all concerned.
NOFEAR, AirForce, Dowsie, thank you for the updates on TMS (previously known as AngerSharkz). Unfortunately, I suspect that they will be back under another alias.....just like Teslo/Teslon/Teflon......
Casshy, I think you might have a point wrt Government intervention however those who think along these lines usually get shouted down on this forum. Time will tell?
