RE: RE deal or no deal13 May 2024 19:48
Brendyboy, Golfdinger, Ispy, it is true that three parcel machines that are being installed and commissioned between now and November in Leeds, Plymouth and Exeter, however this is not necessarily off the back of parcels growth.
When Thompson was CEO, he tried to cancel the order for these parcel machines however the manufacturer, Solystic, threatened to take RM to court and "make life difficult" through their supply chain of spares as Solystic supplies spares for their iLSMs, CSS and parcel machines. RMs case was not helped when the on site Solystic engineers who were commissioning parcel machines around the country noticed that the RM engineers were manufacturing their own spares using 3D printers freshly purchased for the job, clearly breaching both copyright and the spares contract as Solystic has noticed a drop off in certain expensive parts being ordered. RM had no real option but to honour it's original contractual obligation.
Leeds is a very large mail centre and can swallow a parcel machine without any issues. Plymouth can also accommodate a parcel machine. Exeter is a tiny office and having seen the size of the parcel machine I'm not sure how they are going to fit it in? It's also worth noting that neither Plymouth or Exeter appear to be losing any staff as the existing staff will be needed for portering and operation. Both offices will however need to advertise for additional engineering staff to cope with the extra machinery.
