Broch, as I posted last week, we are now getting a fantastic service from RM. Parcels and small jiffy bags between 9am and 10am, letters between 6pm and 7pm. Large items are delivered (or collected as returns) by Evri between 11am and 5pm. Couldn't ask for better than that.

I notice that the RM tracking system is still down? I'm not sure why it's taking so long to fix.

The "snow shovels" story does seem to be funny on the face of it, however if you dive deeper into this then you will find that the current senior management is up against more than just a disgruntled workforce? Senior management and the BoD are wanting to make fundamental changes to the infrastructure in terms of buildings and automation but are very often frustrated by legacy contracts signed by their predecessors that would be costly to scrap or change and as we have been told that finances are tight then work around solutions that are less than optimal have to be found. I'm sure that it will all work out in the end but all the time that Simon is inter rimming nothing is going to happen.

The tree shaking is neither here nor there to those who are currently happy to hold and don't wish to purchase more at this current time but interesting none the less.

Hurtsparrow, I believe that those "plastic Yorks" were an innovation from one of the engineering apprentices and sanctioned by the Head of Engineering because the existing red sleeves couldn't be tipped for the new parcel machines. The project couldn't afford new wheeled containers so this was the work around. The snow shovels will have a dual usage during the winter months. Just be careful with the sharp edges of the cable ties though?

Today, I received a couple of jiffy bags from my usual postie at around 9am this morning. Imagine my surprise when a different postie handed me three letters just after 7pm this evening?

If you go online to the Daily Mail or This is Money, all the comments are about poor service from RM, however my postcode area seems to be bucking the trend here.

Redceo, that's strange as a couple of days ago, I was informed on this forum that "Martin is the CEO. Whoever is appointed as head of Royal Mail will ultimately report to Martin. As will the head of GLS".

This is possible of course, however how can you possibly know this or is this just your opinion? Do you have any proof?

Incidentally, I had a government backed mortgage following the failure of Northern Rock, however, I would like to point out that my mortgage wasn't called in as the UK Government stepped in. Why? Because too many voters would be affected. Never underestimate the power of politics.

Here's my viewpoint.

In all honesty, I was never concerned about the BS floated by both RM and the CWU regarding the administrators. Sure the Postal Services Act has a section on administration however do you seriously believe that the UK Government would allow that to happen without offering a bail out? RM has a customer base of around 45m adults. Bulb Energy has a customer base of 1.7m households so probably less than 5m adults. Bulb Energy gets a bail out but not RM? I don't think so...

Baldy Dave comparing RM to Woolworths? What a laugh. Woolworths is/was not even in the same county let alone ball park as RM. Woolworths had competition all over the high street from B&M, The Range, Wilkinsons, Home Bargains and even Poundland.

The UK Government are duty bound by the PSA to provide a postal administration to carry out the USO. What other UK postal carrier could offer to take that up? Amazon, DPD, Evri, Yodel? Even if all the other UK carriers combined forces they couldn't do it. How do we know? Because the likes of Whistl tried it before (in London only) and failed miserably.

I'm not saying that going forward, things can't or won't change, however in 2022 it wasn't going to be a viable option that's for sure.
