If that was true and you could have taken 14 days gratis by saying that you had coronavirus symptoms with no questions asked then I'm surprised that only 20% of the workforce took up the offer.
This was certainly not the case in my office.

I think that your managers must have been following their own procedurs? I was under the impression that you had to have received a positive Covid-19 test before you could book sick leave on full pay to self isolate for 14 days, or have received a letter from the government stating that you had to "shield" for 13 weeks because of an underlying condition.
If you wanted to "self isolate" because you didn't want to mix with others then that was an available option but it was unpaid leave.

Dynamo, the SWW is worth 2.63% so if it is off the table for this round of pay negotiations then I would guess that a pay increase of less than 2.6% is in the offing.
Personally, I would take a one hour reduction over a 2.6% increase but I guess that it's all down to personal circumstances.

MrNation, I think that your prediction of £2.50 following the announcement of a positive deal with the CWU is a little high but not unreasonable, however to get back to the dizzy heights of £6+ RM will need to become more efficient with their parcels automation (currently a work in progress over the next 5 years), the worldwide coronavirus pandemic needs to be under control and the economy needs to pick itself up as the UK GDP for the 2nd quarter has fallen by 20.4% and the UK is entering a massive recession.

Wolves, I will concede that RM have had decades of promoting some pretty useless OPGs into management but that's probably because the posties that could have done a good job as a manager didn't want the grief.
Of course there are plenty of choices for the public to post their parcels and from reading the last page of posts it would appear that RM are way down the list of good, value for money couriers so why is it that our buildings have been packed to the rafters with parcels for the last 6 months when they could have used Amazon or DPD or Herpes or UPS who are clearly more efficient and cheaper?

Wolves, the difference between RM and BA is that OPG grades in RM are represented by the CWU whereas BA staff are represented by that sad excuse of a union called UNITE which also represents the managerial grades in RM and guess what?... That's right....2000 RM managerial posts down the dunny without even a hint of a fight from UNITE.

BTW, I like to hear a prediction based on evidence but I don't judge if it doesn't go to plan.

Unfortunately, Rico thought that he could bypass the union and ignore any prior agreements. This was a risky strategy and it didn't play out well. I could have understood if he had just walked into the business but Rico has been an employee for over 20 years so knew what the risks were with regards to the CWU.
The job cuts for management will be a lot easier as RM are dealing with UNITE who have never been strong. They rolled over for ASDA employees and are rolling over for BA employees.

Record parcel volumes most certainly did not translate into profit (which those in the know were warning about).
You may be knowledgeable about other companies and their shares but I think that you are off the pace with RM.

I agree with you wholeheartedly but there are many that will argue (incorrect in my opinion) that it is the CWU that have put RM in their current predicament.

Crystalball, if (and it's a huge "if") GLS was sold off then I would hope that the proceeds would be used for the transformation programme. I have no Idea how much of the £1.8bn (that Rico borrowed 18 months ago) is left but if RM are posting alleged losses of £1m a day then it's going to eat into any equity?

Wolves, I remember floating the theoretical possibility of RM getting into financial difficulty and selling off GLS on this forum about 18 months ago. This theory seemed to upset Redceo to the point where he stated that "my point had not been made!"
The question that you need to ask is "why are RM haemorrhaging money (allegedly to the tune of £1m per day)" and who is responsible for running the business?
As a shareholder you own a little piece of RM. Are you not concerned that it is losing money? Have you contacted the people who run the business to find out why and ask what they are doing about it?
The RM Pension Fund (RMPFS) up to the 31st of March 2008 is paid for and protected by the UK government. You can partially thank the CWU for that. I believe that the 2008 to 2018 pension fund is also protected so that the business cannot reappropriate the funds. If there were to be a theoretical takeover then the new owner would have more caveats to negotiate than you could shake a stick at.
