Phunt73, I believe that the threshold for a legally upheld ballot is over 50% of the membership.
The last ballot produced a turnout of 86,500 out of 110,000 members which is 78.6%, so only a miserly 28.6,% above the threshold. Out of the 78.6% turnout, 97.1% voted in favour of the motion meaning that only 76,355 members of the workforce voted in favour.
RM employs around 160,000 employees but some of those are in the CMA (managers) and some are not union members so therefore not eligible to vote anyway.

Dear Colleague,
CWU Dispute with Royal Mail Group
Our Representatives and members will have seen the immediate response of Royal Mail
Group in the wake of what we consider to be a totally shameful and unjust injunction
served on the CWU.
Those reflecting and perhaps making their judgement should remember that we balloted
circa 110,000 members, 86,500 members participated in the ballot and 97.1% rejected
RMG’s propaganda and voted with their colleagues and their union. It was an amazing
campaign, everyone worked extremely hard engaging with the membership and their
response was nothing short of magnificent.

It wouldn't surprise me to see it return to the low £1.60s before we see any improvement again.
No word on any agreement between RM and the CWU but the line managers are gearing up to brief staff on the "future of the business" which should be interesting.
I'm not sure how any agreement will affect the share price but hopefully it will be positive?

I would assume that Amazon would dump all of their "Highlands and Islands" parcels onto RM, although it's probably not a bad thing as RM have the workforce to be able to deliver?
I'm not sure what the contract details are but rest assured that Amazon are not losing out on the deal.

I believe that the rules on breaks are;
Up to 4 hours = 20 mins
4 hours to 8 hours = 40 mins (or 2 x 20 mins)
Over 8 hours = 60 mins (or 3 x 20 or 2 x 30 mins).

Ispy, I believe that Parcelforce deliver on Sundays but not RM.

From the viewpoint of the mail centres (especially the smaller ones) there needs to be an agreement on the introduction of parcels automation and quickly! RM simply cannot carry on sorting parcels manually and expect to make any sort of headway against the competition. RM may also need to consider the possibility of offering a seven days a week service to keep in line with the likes of Hermes?

Scamp, as you are well aware, there are members of this forum and indeed members of the general public that see trade unions in general as an unnecessary hindrance to industry and more importantly the important business of making a profit. Indeed some members of this forum have even blamed the CWU for a poorly performing share price and called for the CWU to be abolished. Of course, we know that is a foolish notion as this would infer that the CWU are massively influential in the stock market.
I am sure that the CWU would love to represent the GLS workforce but given that GLS operates within 41 European countries, eight U.S. states and 2 Canadian provinces, I'm not sure that it would be feasible or even legal?
Don't forget that the CWU also represent Post Office workers and BT including O2, EE and Virgin Media but BT also own BT Italia however they are not represented by the CWU.
Perhaps it's time for the CWU to rise to global domination (cuts to clip of Terry Pullinger sitting in luxurious leather armchair whilst stroking a white long haired Persian cat).

Scamp, I wasn't inferring that the UK government would step in if RM were to sell off GLS but the tone that I took from Kassam's post inferred that his thinking was that DK would buy RM lock stock, put GLS in his pocket, sell off the RM asset portfolio then leave RM to flounder and fail...or perhaps I misread? Either way, it was a post written with bitterness.
I agree with you that the USO needs to change and quickly and I think that perhaps DK/Vesa are anticipating change to drive the SP up?
RM has a recent history of selling off their land and buildings then renting back, which I am not opposed to but in the financial economic climate it is probably more viable to borrow as interest rates are currently very low. RM needs GLS to help service the loans that it currently has so why would they sell off the cash cow?

Why do you think that would happen? Do you seriously think that the RM BoD (or UK government for that matter) would allow that to happen. Do you not think that there are legal protections in place to prevent that from happening?

Scamp, I would imagine that there are quite a few shorters and investors that would like to see the share price dip below £1.60. Not sure that there will be an RNS before the end of next week though?

One of Royal Mail's strong points is also it's weak point. RM has the ability, capacity and experience to deliver to every UK address 6 days a week and 7 days a week if necessary.
Although RM is no longer in government ownership, it is still classified as a "public service" and will accept just about anything that it is given to deliver. It doesn't like to turn business away or "upset the customer". When was the last time that you saw a yellow surcharge sticker?
We are also still under billing many large customers because not all of our machines have the ability to bill automatically and some managers fill out the paperwork incorrectly. Until we can get all of our equipment on the same billing system and track every letter and parcel then we are going to have a level of inefficiency.
Also, we are the only mail carrier that has a "return to sender" policy.

Dynamo, the RM share price has been an enigma for the last 2 years. It seems to rise and fall at random. Good news regarding industrial relations is, in my opinion more likely to make the share price drop if anything. If I were being cynical, I would say that this is being manipulated by some very clever (and rich) people.

200iq, I also work in a mail centre but although the coronavirus sick policy is clearly stated on PSP it appears that managers may be logging sick absence differently?
If the sick leave is for the employee then the normal sick leave policy applies if you have confirmed coronavirus or have symptoms and need to self isolate for 7 days.
If you are looking after a dependent but have no symptoms then you are expected to take holiday, unpaid time off or flexible working and the same applies to shielding vulnerable members of their household.

Does anyone know which day the employee shares are purchased this month. I think that this share traditionally rises on the days leading up to purchase?

Dynamo, I'm not sure what information you were given on the coronavirus sick policy but it certainly wasn't what Wolves has been posting. We were told that if you display any of the symptoms then go home on sick and phone NHS111 for advice. Workers over 70 and those with government letters were given the opportunity to shield in line with the government policy. Managers were told to work from home where applicable and all business travel was banned.
My office had very little coronavirus sick (on top of normal sick) absence. Obviously as RM are a large employer there will always be a very small percentage of employees who abuse the system but as RM employ a cross section of society then that's to be expected.
I'm sure that we would all have jumped at the chance of two weeks extra holiday if it was that easy.
I suspect that Wolves would object to the furlough scheme as well because people are getting paid to stay at home!
