Eastsidemassive, I used to work with someone who started in 1970 and took 2 years VR pay in 1992 under BD. He returned to virtually the same job in the same office in 1995 where he worked until 2016 and took 2 years VR under the MTSF agreement when the office closed.

Unfortunately you are correct but I find it a little concerning when a large employer such as RM are able to flaunt the law for so long and seemingly get away with it?
I also find it strange that BT employees have been receiving average holiday pay since it was introduced.

Also Normandy, how long does it take to load your Fiat Doblo to the gunnels with parcels (in some sort of coherent sequenced order) plus trolley and wet weather gear and do your 20 minutes vehicle check? That's going to take almost an hour on it's own?
Like I said earlier, if you can do it in an hour then crack on!

Normandy, when Saturday letter deliveries were temporarily suspended and the postie's were just taking parcels out it was still taking as long plus there was a 99% first time delivery rate but if you can do a parcel walk (on a rural) in an hour then crack on as you will be your DOM's new BFF.

Normandy, perhaps letter deliveries on a Saturday may cease but as I understand it the CWU would be amenable to Saturday and Sunday parcel deliveries so I would imagine that there would not be any need for job losses. Also, any jobs lost through parcels automation in mail centres would almost certainly be offset by extra weekend parcel delivery workload.
I'm not sure if the CWU would agree to Sunday duty at a standard OPG rate but that's another story.

MrNation, the RM share price was indeed £6.31 in May 2018 so what has changed to reduce the price by 66%?
Are you saying that because the SP has historically been at a certain price that it is expected to return based on previous form?

Wolves, agreed that the need for sequencing machines is reducing but they should only have been introduced into delivery offices and not mail centres which should be gearing up to make room for parcel machines. Unfortunately the business has made an error by getting rid of sequencing machines in delivery offices and keeping the ones in mail centres.
Originally, sequencing machines were brought in to model the Netherlands Post Office where the mail is sequenced and delivered to postie's (mainly housewives in rural areas) to deliver after the school run but as usual the management of the day (circa 2009/10) made a complete fist of things and we are now paying the price 10 years later.
The whole idea of the CSS machines was that you didn't have to throw off your walk as it would be prepped for you during the night, whilst you slept.

I don't think that the shorters have gone away for good. They will be back. It seems that this share is just too easy to manipulate.

Mike, it's a pity that we can't add D2D into the sequencing machine mix then wouldn't need to add it manually.

Mike, I thought that D2D was supposed to be prepped up alongside the usual mail and only delivered when there is other mail to be delivered? In theory it shouldn't be taking up extra time to deliver and only minimal time to prep. How long does it take to throw off one D2D item to each address on your walk?

thecouchman, I too sold yesterday afternoon at £2.18 taking a modest profit. I was pondering selling mid August and was waiting for the price to go to £2.25 but it dropped back again so this time I lowered my sights.
I am of the same opinion as you and think that it may drop back to possibly as low as £1.50 if talks between RM and the CWU go bandy (or if the shorters decide to play with it again).

So the SP has risen to £1.73 to £2.19 on the back of a very mediocre report?
Is it heading up to £2.50 or back down to £1.70?

Forgive my ignorance but what would a share buyback scheme achieve? Would this be a move to stave off a potential takeover bid?

GZK, I believe that this passage in the RNS answers your question?
"Currently, too many parcels are sorted by hand and we are failing to adapt our business to fundamentally lower letter volumes and are holding on to outdated working practices and a delivery structure that no longer meets customer needs."

"Postal Workers who are CWU members have today delivered a massive 94.5% YES vote to strike. The vote return of 63.4% of those balloted, for the third time in less than three years, easily met the relatively new Trade Union rules and represents a massive mandate to strike".
As Rural13 has already pointed out "the membership who can be bothered to vote know exactly where to put the X" and as around 48% of the workforce at CWU represented grades are over 50 with more than 20 years service then I would expect another good turnout.
