I read the article underneath for the non payment of $24 million by Tanesco to a local gas company for supply of gas for electricity generation , the latest period relates to $4 million and equates to $5.50 a mmbtu and is equivalent to $46 a tonne of coal for electricity generation at Mbeya , which would be rather nice . Best news for me all week ,

Oh and it is also claimed the 240Mw station would negate the need to import $1billion of diesel, heavy oil for electricity generators etc . So 300Mw at Mbeya which is in a different region would also save Tanzania a fortune in other fuel imports . Tanzania is a very inefficient country

I did some calcs on the 240Mw Kinyerezi11 power station , it uses 36million cubic feet of gas per day and at $4 per mmbtu would cost for an equivalent 300Mw power station $51 million per annum in gas ,
So 1.5million tonnes of coal for Mbeya as per RNS would work out at $34 per tonne equivalent.
My past calcs for a gas plant came out at $60 million per annum so maybe the efficiency has been increased .or usage stated is incorrect or my calcs were wrong.
( note I used $4 and that gas could be more or less expensive in Tanzania).
$34 is not an unreasonable figure to place on the coal., They are paying $57-$63 .per equivalent qty in other countries.

It does appear a load of cobblers.

200Mw seems too high , but then again I don't specialize in geothermal energy extraction .

No idea how much per tonne , it has half the energy value of the $100 standard . Perhaps 2000cv compared to 4000 cv not got figures with me I’m on my mobile .

15kj/kg pretty uniformed quality across Mbeya , 13kj/kg in Botswana . It is lignite very good for the MCCP feed in fuel unprocessed and fed straight into burner ,

Unfortunately the coal is not of the quality to be sold anywhere near €100 a tonne .

Sorry everyone now I've read into this some more I overlooked the integrated gasification combined cycle , They must be deluded / day dreaming . The best Tanesco can hope for is an ultra super critical cycle without carbon capture . they couldn't afford the electricity generated from it or they won't have to pay for it due to no international arbitration.

Captain I agree with your assessment , This has been badly communicated as you point out, it could be a requirement for 600Mw at Mbeya or anywhere.
We know that TGov don't want to underwrite power providers to Tanesco and now the new arbitration law I wouldn't be surprised if they've had a proposal withdrawn or the replacement of one of the existing providers seeking arbitration .I'm erring to the positive on this being a new opportunity .

Thanks KIBO for a shit birthday present today , Been watching with annoyance and frustration from my phone all day . Just listened to the podcast .<br /> I remember all the complaints me included since the MOU that LC has kept us in the dark with all the problems with Tanesco and documentation and has been heavily criticized. this time he's put it in an RNS in the open so there's a first and he's trying his best to explain the implications .. KIBO will be tendering for 300Mw within the 600MW that Tanesco have asked tenders for, It appears this is their new way of doing business. I'm not entirely happy with all that's developed this year but understand the reasoning behind it .The expanded multi faceted company has a good chance to create shareholder value., I'm undecided if todays revelation would have positive or negative impact depends when all is known.

I think all shareholders would agree with the assessment. Although she is promoting gas usage the message is that without reliable energy access there will be no development and no escape from poverty. .More important is the access to cheap reliable energy, once you have cheap energy available then you begin to introduce green/eco energy exactly what the Chinese did.

I like the MCCP it's a great project , I like everyone else am frustrated at the unfortunate timing firstly of the TGov reorganizing the mining ministry due to dubious miners accounting that was syphoning all the money out the country .Then the delay in the PPA with Tanesco perhaps due to the mess with paying out at 23c Kw to Simbian power and now they won't have the big expected revenues since being mugged by the big boys over LNG. Good to know China is knocking at the door.

I agree MCCP is a low cost, effective power proposal yet there is hardly anything out there from the TGov that acknowledges MCCP .
Nationalism well we are also expected to allow TGov to have 16% of the project. and the Chinese won't throw money away on vanity projects when there are more cost efficient projects that they are already involved in .

I picked up on the 225Mw combined HFO and diesel plants in Tanzania now that's an expensive fuel import bill not including all the private generators .
