It is worth pointing out that the production of Suger Cane in Brasil is probably the most Eco-unfriendly method of Bio-Fuel production. Not only does it take valuable land from food production, but the cane has to be burnt prior to cutting to rid the land of weeds and pests, i.e. snakes and termites etc. This creates large amounts of smoke which adds to the local pollution and also the worlds CO2 levels. BP should perhaps mention that when they spout their 'Green' credentials.

Must agree given the massive buys on Friday. No serious profit taking, and a 2.5million buy @ 9.35p says that someone is serious. I can't see Bruce Myerson selling out cheaply or indeed Ben Good agreeing to a sale at less than fair value. Given that there have been some bids rejected in the past, it will have to be a serious offer or it will be turned down.

Yes, it is true that BP has scaled back investments in alternative energy. This year it will spend only between $500 million and $1 billion on the business, compared with $1.4 billion in 2008 and earlier this year it made large job cuts at several of its solar cell manufacturing plants. In a statement made in July they said, "BP has thought long and hard about its biofuels strategy for the future and has decided to focus on three key strategic areas for biofuels investment: production of ethanol from sugar cane in Brazil; lignocellulosic ethanol (using for-purposes energy grasses as feedstocks) in the U.S.; and the advanced fuel molecule biobutanol," the company said in a statement. "To ensure the success of these investments, BP is concentrating new business development in these areas and will no longer be directly involved in the jatropha as a biofuel feedstock," it said. However, BP retains an option from the original joint-venture agreement in 2007 to buy shares in D1 and remains open to the possibility of buying jatropha oil from the company in the future. So, not all doom and gloom.

We'll see in the coming days, but my view is that the PI's who were in pre 9p will either take profits or wait for any offer that might come. As the 'talk on the boards' is of 15 - 20p, I would think there is still money to be made. Even without an offer, this company is in a good growth sector, with a unique angle and should grow share value quite quickly. Given the cost benefits over 'real' fuels, sales can only increase. As processing is relatively simple, the main restriction would seem to be distribution, which would benefit greatly from a deal with a large independent or possibly one of the majors, although they have their own projects to consider. But to answer your question, yes, I think it's got legs and I for one will be topping up on any retrace.

..I see NVTA are ticking up. I didn't get in there due to lack of funds and the other two I'm researching are also looking good, but again, no spare cash! I won't tell you what they are as you have enough 'gamblers' at the moment and I'd hate to put temptation in your way. Well, I think that just about covers everything, apart from HDY which has dropped 20p and AKT which is down 2p. AKT is to me what HAWK is to you. I should sell out but I know it will come good soon and I'm still a bit in front, so it's not like CSLT. I'll be out of HDY as and when and will look at NVTA again then. Speak next week.

I had to sell BAO at a small loss to release the funds for DOO, not the smartest move, but hopefully DOO will perform in time to allow me back into BAO prior to the expected increase. Also sold RTO late on Friday and am holding the cash waiting for my Russians to get to buying range. They were down on Thursday and Friday, but didn't quite make the low I need. ENRC and KAZ are my two targets for next week. I use the charts a lot for these and they are remarkably accurate, (most of the time) and show when the price has reached bottom. I actually missed ENRC on Friday. The chart said 875p would be the bottom and it reached 874p before picking up. The only snag at the moment is lack of confidence. Metal prices are up and down every day and no two pundits share the same view. Economy is picking up, economy is getting worse, recession has ended, recession will get worse. Not easy to predict and the big worry is that if the FTSE does tank, it will do so very quickly. Not good on the nerves. Had a lot on last week or so, hence no posting. Not too busy with 'real' work, but been trying to sort the house out. New flooring, decorating and refit of the bathroom. Plus youngest Son's 5th, Step Daughters 21st, eldest Son's 31st and Wife's 40th Birthday's, all with parties to organise, throw in Halloween and Bonfire Night and it has been a hectic two weeks. Well, a bad week finally ended yesterday with a 12 hour power cut ! Very reluctantly I got out of CSLT over the week. There was only selling all week and with over 50,000,000 (5p)shares still being held by the funds, I can't see any pick up until January. Conspiracy theory would suggest a deal by the Directors and the funds that would allow them to 'close the shop' without too much pain (for themselves) and leave PI's in the mire. Maybe not, but I have lost enough and can put the cash to better use. Speaking of which, I put a wedge into DOO on Friday on T/O talk. It is a Bio-Fuels compnay that has done well and has had a tie up with BP, so may well prove fruitful. PLEASE DYOR as it has put on 40% already, but the talk is of 15 - 20p so there may still be a bit to go. It was kept very quiet until Thursday evening and took off on Friday. However there was big buying all day and the SP didn't spike, mainly due to lack of the usual hysteria, so I'm hoping that growth will be sustained until an announcment is made. HAWK must be the most frustrating share you hold. I admire your patience, but I would be out at the next increase and into the 'Falklands Four'. They will really take off after Christmas when drilling starts.

Yes Exxon are looking at Algae bio-fuels, along with many others. The main problems are with the amount of money the process requires. The startup costs can be offputting to potential companies or investors and at the moment the cost to actually produce usable oil from the algae is still higher than the cost of oil but many companies are confident that this will change once they are able to produce at a higher volume and refine their processes.

..on who DOO are talking to? Exxon, BP, or even Cargill ? or maybe a smaller outfit wanting to grow. Argent Energy or Greenergy perhaps. Any more possibles?

For the benefit of those who didn't know what the attraction of Jatropha was and why the economic benefits are greater than 'normal' Bio-fuels. Jatropha is actually a “wild plant”, and therefore it has never been professionally cultivated. Recent studies show a potential of approximately 30 million hectares of land on which this plant could be grown, especially in South America, Africa and in Asian countries such as China, India or Indonesia. Since Jatropha can be cultivated on barren land, it does not compete for land that is being used for food production, and thus provides farmers with an additional source of income. Source: Bayer CropScience So, it's cheaper to produce and doesn't take up valuable food producing land. Sounds good to me and I'm not even a tree hugger.
