New technique rolls out 40 feet of perovskite solar film per minute

Perovskite solar cells are rapidly catching up to their silicon forebears in terms of efficiency, but one area they continue to lag behind in is production speed. Now, researchers at Stanford University have developed a new method of making perovskite solar cells at up to 40 ft (12 m) per minute, which is even faster than silicon.

Hydrogen holds great potential as a clean energy source, largely because it produces no CO2 and only emits water vapor when used in a fuel cell. Most production, however, requires the use of fossil fuels, which has motivated much research into cleaner methods. A research team working in this area has made a discovery that could help these efforts along, demonstrating how algal cells can be turned into tiny hydrogen-producing factories by immersing them in sugary droplets.

There is a lot of unproductive money looking for a home at the moment which might be good news for mining prospects. I am not so sure about Australia though; their disagreements with China are really going to hurt, the building of Snowy 2 and recovery from the ongoing fire seasons are going to be a continual drain on labour and other resources. Until the society there decide that they are happy with migrants again I do not see that many new mining projects getting off the ground.

As we both know, there are no dividends whilst the resource is in the ground even though you can benefit from changes in share prices [as long as you time buys after a placing and sells before the next one].

I have only made a few hundred quid this month - I am joining you on a veggie diet. But with the little profit I have treated myself with canned beans for my curries instead of soaking and cooking dried ones.

The Shadow Chancellor makes a good point - we leave the EU transition period in 5 weeks. How can there be a spending review without any details of a deal [or not]? Motor manufacturers are ordering parts from the EU now for manufacturing in the new year without knowing if there will be tariffs on the imports or on the exports to the EU of finished products.

So now we have a populist Chancellor - you do not increase minimum wages in a depression.

I doubt they change benefit rates at the same time, so they are shifting the costs of benefits for the low paid onto employers at a time they cannot afford the extra costs.

The Bar Stewards delayed publishing their accounts - cost me 5% today. I only bought in for the accounts and news of the resumption of dividends; neither of which have happened yet. Now I need a bigger spike to make the shortish term profit I was expecting.

Companies like GoCo have fantastic gross profit ratios as their fixed costs are so low. But they have 2 achilles heels: they are vulnerable to a competitor who can leverage emerging programming languages and cloud platforms to further cut IT costs and also vulnerable to an insider who has access to seed capital and industry contacts to start a competitor offering lower commissions.

I stay away from such companies.
