I offer a rare bit of optimism - Manaus thought that herd immunity had been achieved, let its guard down as the new variant started spreading and partied as though Covid was beaten. From the WSJ:

I have a lot of hope that a live attenuated vaccine will provide sufficient immunity to eradicate Covid as a global threat. Codagenix's candidate is currently in a Phase 1 trial. It is a "geekier" vaccine than the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna.

Let me guess, the High Streets are closed and some businesses that MTRO has lent to are in financial difficulty. People are losing their jobs and any loans they have might be becoming distressed. MTRO's 7 year 5.5% bonds are trading at 65% of face value. Nobody knows what percentage of the mortgage parcel will be rejected or what value will be placed on the rejected mortgages when accounts are drawn up in the future.

The positive headlines yesterday played down the emerging evidence of reduced efficacy of the current / new vaccines against the "B.1.351 variant" [aka the South African variant]. This is potentially very bad news, especially as Covid will take longer to brought under control in the 3rd world where mutations in immunocompromised people are more likely to happen.

Not easy to put the worms back into the can once they have been released... Some horse can only run on left-handed tracks - the EU has changed course, so now we get to see which way the relationship between the UK and Northern Ireland change because the whole Protocol is now under threat.

There are so many boards that are getting excited in anticipation of Reddit / Wallstreetbets punters piling into their share or commodity. The fact that there is only a certain amount that retail gamblers can gamble at one time or the fact that not many UK shares can be traded by US Robinhood account holders has not occurred to them [yet].

But people are greedy and some will be reluctant to sell whilst others are buying more, so some speculative shares will probably rise next week. Might be worth being ready to sell if you benefit from a spike?

I posted a little while ago that the goodwill that could have been generated by helping Ireland with the vaccination of their medical staff [they were a couple of thousand doses short] was a missed opportunity.

The "vaccine wars" kind of proves my point; whilst the UK still seems to have the high ground Boris could have taken command of the entire hill. The EU seem to have made a strategic mistake.

It makes good news copy with the way the story is presented. What they are omitting is that there are hedge funds who operate as momentum traders and that those traders use advanced AI models to mine social media to feed their programs / quants. Of course Wall Street Bets is being scraped; it is just the quality of the training of the model that the data is being added to and models like that have iterative learning features.
