Clearly, this uplift is negating other downward asset movements. With the way the markets have been performing in general, 'balancing the books' is a good outcome.

The uplift is significant for a £5m m/cap - about 12%. A good investment by the BOD.

Yes - it is hard to balance the book if you do not tax the rich or have lots of low paid taxpayers. Either there are more taxpayers or the rich pay more. I would prefer the rich to pay more through a tax on 'unearned income'. People like me should have to pay more tax; I would not have been able to retire in my forties if the system was not so generous to people who have some money.

If the jobless rate is so low and the GOV is running a massive deficit then does it mean that we need to start importing millions of workers so more tax can be raised off the back of workers? It is not as though any untruss worthy PM would change policy and raise taxes to balance the books.
