Slovakia used to rely on Ruzzia for gas and nuclear fuel. They now get Westinghouse nuclear fuel from Sweden and are importing regasified LNG (imported from Qatar, Algeria, and the United States) from Italy.

Remember - he is keen on cutting taxes and made a big play on how cutting inflation to 2% is the biggest tax cut that he can offer taxpayers. I suppose if you pay as low a rate as he does [he is mostly taxed on capital gains, so pays very little NI] then reducing inflation might seem like a tax cut, but how thick does he think people are to expect the public to swallow that whilst they keep tax bands the same as people suffer for higher marginal rates.

Russian gas production so far this year has slumped to levels not seen since the 1970s.

The country's state energy giant Gazprom said in its latest report that gas production in the first half of 2023 was 179.45 billion cubic meters (bcm). Gazprom added that this represents a year-on-year decrease of nearly a quarter (24.7 percent), and a 26.5 percent drop in gas supplies to the domestic and foreign markets.
