I would approve of some sort of online sales tax and there should be much more emphasis on transfer pricing tax dodges. The idea that Starbucks etc can pay royalties to Starbuck TaxHaven Inc such that they run their UK operations at a 'loss' is just wrong; they should be paying their taxes on profits just like the little man.

Similarly, if Starbucks [for instance] invests in the UK the money they invested should be capital not a loan; too many of these greedy corporations structure themselves such that they pay more in interest [and royalties, franchise fees, licensing fees etc] to an offshore company than they declare as operating profit.

Unfortunately GOV like these predatory businesses as they know that VAT and employerment taxes will be efficiently collected.

Yes and no; some high street dinosaurs have not adapted to the new economic circumstances and they have become zombies. To breath new life into the high street they need to be culled. Some sectors of the economy are just better served by online retailers.... Years ago you would go to a local electrical shop or supermarket for bulbs etc; now order them online for much less and take advantage of the efficiencies.

I used to use small battery type buttons; £2 at a local retailer [Maplin] or £2 for 10 including postage online. Maplin deserve to have gone bankrupt for being so greedy - how can a 2000% profit margin be justified?
